Sir Daniel Ford Goddard Privy Council of the United Kingdom, PC JP (17 January 1850 – 6 May 1922) was a British civil engineer, businessman and Liberal Party (UK), Liberal Party politician who served as a Member of Parliament (United Kingdom), Member of Parliament (MP) for Ipswich (UK Parliament constituency), Ipswich from 1895 to 1918. He was also List of mayors of Ipswich Borough, Suffolk, Mayor of Ipswich from 1891 to 1892. Background Goddard was the son of Ebenezer Goddard, C.E., J.P., of Ipswich, Suffolk, and his wife Annie, née Ford. Hugo Richard Charteris, 11th Earl of Wemyss and 7th Earl of March DL (25 August 1857 – 12 July 1937), styled Lord Elcho from 1883 to 1914, was a British Conservative politician. Sir Charles Dalrymple, 1st Baronet, (15 October 1839 – 20 June 1916) was a Scottish Conservative politician. Life Born Charles Fergusson, he was the second surviving son of Sir Charles Dalrymple Fergusson, 5th Baronet, and grandson of Sir James Fergusson, 4th Baronet, and his wife Jean, daughter of David Dalrymple, Lord Hailes. Sir James Fergusson, 6th Baronet, was his elder brother. On the death of his father in 1849 he assumed the surname of Dalrymple in lieu of Fergusson. He was educated at Harrow School and Trinity College, Cambridge, graduating with third-class honours in classics. He was called to the bar at Lincoln's Inn in 1865. 1918 United Kingdom General Election
The 1918 United Kingdom general election was called immediately after the Armistice with Germany which ended the First World War, and was held on Saturday, 14 December 1918. The governing coalition, under Prime Minister David Lloyd George, sent letters of endorsement to candidates who supported the coalition government. These were nicknamed "Coalition Coupons", and led to the election being known as the "coupon election". The result was a massive landslide in favour of the coalition, comprising primarily the Conservatives and Coalition Liberals, with massive losses for Liberals who were not endorsed. Nearly all the Liberal MPs without coupons were defeated, including party leader H. H. Asquith. It was the first general election to include on a single day all eligible voters of the United Kingdom, although the vote count was delayed until 28 December so that the ballots cast by soldiers serving overseas could be included in the tallies. Charles Masterman
Charles Frederick Gurney Masterman PC (24 October 1873 – 17 November 1927) was a British radical Liberal Party politician, intellectual and man of letters. He worked closely with such Liberal leaders as David Lloyd George and Winston Churchill in designing social welfare projects, including the National Insurance Act 1911. During the First World War he played a central role in the main government propaganda agency. Early life Masterman was the third son of Thomas W. Masterman of Rotherfield Hall in Sussex. Silvester Horne
Charles Silvester Horne (1865–1914) was a Congregationalist, Congregational minister, who additionally served as Liberal Party (UK), Liberal Member of parliament, MP for Ipswich (UK Parliament constituency), Ipswich, and was a noted orator. He was the father of the humorous broadcaster, Kenneth Horne. Childhood He was born in Cuckfield, Sussex, on 15 April 1865, the youngest child of Charles Horne, the minister of Cuckfield Congregational Church, and his wife, whose maiden name was Harriet Silvester Simpson. When he was six weeks old the family moved to Newport, Shropshire. Here Charles Horne gave up the ministry, becoming the editor of the local newspaper, the ''Newport Advertiser'' and became a partner of his wife's uncle, Charles Silvester in a printing and bookselling firm. A knight is a person granted an honorary title of knighthood by a head of state (including the Pope) or representative for service to the monarch, the church or the country, especially in a military capacity.
