Federal Public Service Justice
The FPS Justice ( nl, FOD Justitie, french: SPF Justice, german: FÖD Justiz), formerly the Ministry of Justice, is a federal public service of Belgium. It was created by royal order on May 23, 2001, as part of the plans of the Verhofstadt I Government to modernise the federal administration. The transformation from a ministry into a federal public service was completed on July 15, 2002. The FPS Justice is responsible to the minister of justice. Organisation The FPS Justice is currently organised into three directorates-general: *The Directorate-General for Judicial Organisation *The Directorate-General for Legislation and Fundamental Rights and Freedoms *The Directorate-General for Correctional Facilities Several independent organisations resort under the FPS Justice, such as the Gambling Commission. Royal Order (Belgium)
In Belgium, a Royal Decree (RD) or Royal Order () (Dutch language, Dutch), Arrêté Royal (French language, French), or Königlicher Erlass (German language, German) is a Belgian federal government, federal governmental decree exercising legislation, or powers the legislature has delegated to the monarchy of Belgium, King as secondary legislation. Under the Constitution of Belgium, the King cannot act alone. While the monarch is vested with executive power, he is required to exercise it through his Federal Government of Belgium, ministers. Hence, while Royal Orders are issued with the King's signature, they must be countersigned by a minister to be valid. In turn, the countersigning minister assumes political responsibility for the order. Its implementation usually begins on the date that it is published in the Belgian Official Journal. Verhofstadt I Government
The Verhofstadt I Government was the federal government of Belgium from 12 July 1999 to 12 July 2003. It was the first government headed by Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt (VLD). It consisted of the Flemish Liberals and Democrats (VLD), the French-speaking Liberal Reformist Party (PRL), the Flemish Socialist Party (SP), the French-speaking Socialist Party (PS), the Flemish green party Agalev and the French-speaking green party Ecolo. Because it comprised liberals, socialists and greens it was also known as a "purple-green" coalition. It was the first liberal-led coalition in Belgium since 1938, as well as the first since 1958 that did not include a Christian Democratic party. The State Security Service (VSSE) (known in Dutch as ''Staatsveiligheid''; French: ''Sûreté de l'État'') is a Belgian intelligence and security agency. Established in 1830, it is the oldest intelligence service except for the Vatican's. The State Security is a civilian agency under the authority of the Ministry of Justice, while the military intelligence agency, the General Information and Security Service, operates under the authority of the Ministry of Defense. The current Administrator-General is Jaak Raes, after his predecessor Alain Winants occupied the position between 2006 and 2014.
