Fazakerley West (Liverpool Ward)
Fazakerley West ward is an electoral district of Liverpool City Council within the Liverpool Walton and Liverpool West Derby constituencies. Background The ward was created for the elections held on 4 May 2023 following a 2022 review by the Local Government Boundary Commission for England, which decided that the previous 30 wards each represented by three Councillors should be replaced by 64 wards represented by 85 councillors with varying representation by one, two or three councillors per ward. The Fazakerley West ward was created as a single-member ward from the western quarter of the former Fazakerley ward and a small portion of the former Norris Green ward. The ward boundaries follow Longmoor Lane, Higher Lane, the Kirkby branch of the Northern Line, Longmoor Lane, Lower Lane, the East Lancashire Road, Stopgate Lane, and Lone Lane. Liverpool
Liverpool is a city and metropolitan borough in Merseyside, England. HM Prison Altcourse
HM Prison Altcourse is a Category B men's private prison and Young Offender Institution in the Fazakerley area of Liverpool in Merseyside, England. The prison is operated by G4S. History Altcourse became the first prison to be procured under a Private Finance Initiative contract when the contract was signed in December 1995. It was built by Tarmac Construction and opened in December 1997. While early reports about the management of the prison were favourable, the financing of the project drew criticism after it emerged that former owner GSL had managed to make a £10 million windfall from the contracts. In 2005 it was reported that Altcourse was the most overcrowded prison in England with 1,324 inmates. In November 2009, the prison's own Independent Monitoring Board published a report which criticised the amount of illegal drugs that were being smuggled into Altcourse. Everton Cemetery
Everton Cemetery, is in Long Lane, Fazakerley, Liverpool which opened in July 1880. History The site for the cemetery was bought in 1876/7, and John Houlding's building company was contracted to develop the site with its three mortuary chapels, gatehouses, boundary walls and gates. Houlding, the founder of Liverpool F.C., was also the first Chairman of the Everton Burial Board. Everton Cemetery was officially opened on 16 July 1880. Many of the headstones in Everton Cemetery date back much longer than the opening. Whenever work was undertaken in the city, like widening of roads or dock gates, if this work cut into the city's graveyards, the bodies would be exhumed, and moved to Everton, along with the headstones, and in fact sections of Everton Cemetery contain many of these graves, from the likes of St.Nicholas's, St. George's and St. Anne's to name but a few. Aintree University Hospital
Aintree University Hospital (colloquially known as Fazakerley Hospital) is a National Health Service hospital in Fazakerley, Liverpool. It is managed by the Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. History In 1898 Liverpool Corporation acquired land from the Harbreck estate with which to build a hospital. The hospital, initially known as the "City Hospital North, Fazakerley, for Infectious Diseases" opened in 1906. During the First World War, the building was requisitioned by the War Office to create the 1st Western General Hospital, a facility for the Royal Army Medical Corps to treat military casualties. It became the "Fazakerley Infectious Hospital" in 1947 and, after joining the National Health Service in 1948, became the Fazakerley Hospital in 1968. A580 Road
The A580 (officially the Liverpool–East Lancashire Road, colloquially the East Lancs Road) is the United Kingdom's first purpose-built inter-city highway. The road, which remains a primary A road, was officially opened by King George V on 18 July 1934. It links Liverpool to Salford, 3 miles west of Manchester city centre. Purpose The road was built to provide better access between the Port of Liverpool and the industrial areas of East Lancashire around Manchester. The new high-quality trunk road would supersede the indirect and heavily built-up A57 through Prescot, Warrington and Eccles. Journey times for road haulage would be reduced to under an hour.
