Favre Bjerg
Favre Bjerg ( da, Favres Bjerg) is a mountain in eastern Greenland. Administratively it is part of the Northeast Greenland National Park.Google Earth This peak was named at the time of Lauge Koch’s 1936–38 expedition after Swiss geologist Jean Alphonse Favre (1815–1890). The name was chosen by Heinrich Bütler (1893–1983), another Swiss geologist who worked for many years with Lauge Koch in his East Greenland expeditions. Geography Favre Bjerg is a roughly high peak that rises in the northern part of central Hudson Land, west of the Stordalen valley and the Norlund Alps. It is the highest point of Hudson Land. This mountain is marked as a peak in the Defense Mapping Agency Greenland Navigation charts. Google Earth is a computer program that renders a 3D computer graphics, 3D representation of Earth based primarily on satellite imagery. Lauge Koch
Lauge Koch (5 July 1892 – 5 June 1964) was a Danish geologist and Arctic explorer. Biography Lauge Koch was born in 1892 to Karl and Elisabeth Koch. His development as a scientist was greatly influenced by his father's second cousin Johan Peter Koch - a polar explorer, a member of several Greenland expeditions, including Ludvig Mylius-Erichsen's and Alfred Wegener's (in the latter's expedition (1912-1913) to cross Greenland, he led a sledging party). He received his higher education at the University of Copenhagen, where he began his studies in 1911, in 1920 he received a master's degree, and in 1929 a doctor's degree, having defended a dissertation on the topic "Stratigraphy of Greenland". Jean Alphonse Favre
Jean Alphonse Favre (31 March 1815 in Geneva – 11 July 1890 in Pregny) was a Swiss geologist. He was a pioneer of alpine geology and became director of the Swiss Geological Commission ''(Schweizerische Geologische Kommission)'', which was charged with creating the geological map of Switzerland. He studied natural sciences at the Academy of Geneva (1831–37), then chemistry and mineralogy in Paris (1839). From 1844 to 1852 he taught classes in geology and paleontology at the Academy of Geneva, where he was a professor for many years. In 1888, he was elected as a member to the American Philosophical Society. He specialized in geological research of the Savoy and Mont Blanc, that included studies of ancient glaciers associated with those regions. His explanation of the geological structure showed that certain anomalous incidents of fossils were due to recurring interfoldings of the strata and to complex overthrust faults. The Norlund Alps ( da, Nørlund Alper) are a mountain range in King Christian X Land, East Greenland.
