Fatima Gailani
Fatima Gailani ( ps, فاطمه گیلانی; born in Kabul in 1954) is an Afghan political leader and women's rights activist, who previously served as president of the Afghan Red Crescent Society. She was recognized as one of the BBC's 100 women of 2021. Biography Gailani is the daughter of Ahmed Gailani, the founder of the National Islamic Front of Afghanistan (NIFA) who fought against the Soviets in the Soviet–Afghan War. She graduated secondary school from the Centre d'Enseignement Français en Afghanistan. She then earned a master's degree in Persian literature from the National University of Iran and a degree in Islamic studies from the Muslim College in London. While in exile in London during the 1980s, she served as spokesperson for the NIFA Party in the West. Fall Of Kabul (2021)
On 15 August 2021, Afghanistan's capital city of Kabul was captured by the Taliban after a major insurgent offensive that began in May 2021. This led to the overthrowing of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan under President Ashraf Ghani and the reinstatement of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan under the control of the Taliban. The US–Taliban deal, signed on 29 February 2020, is considered one of the most critical factors that caused the collapse of the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF). Following the deal, the US dramatically reduced the number of air attacks and deprived the ANSF of a critical edge in fighting the Taliban insurgency. Pir (Sufism), Pir Sayyid Ahmed Gailani ( fa, پیر سید احمد گیلانی 1932– 21 January 2017), was the leader (Pir) of the Qadiriyyah Sufi order in Afghanistan, and the founder of the National Islamic Front of Afghanistan (''Mahaz-i-Milli Islami ye Afghanistan''), a party that was associated with the Mujahideen who led the war against the Soviet Union in the 1980s. Life and work Sayyid Ahmed Gailani's family are descended from Abdul-Qadir Gilani, the founder of the Qadiriyyah. His father, Sayyid Hasan Gailani, was born in Baghdad before moving to Afghanistan in 1905 in order to establish the Qadiriyyah order in that country. A fatwā ( ; ar, فتوى; plural ''fatāwā'' ) is a legal ruling on a point of Islamic law (''sharia'') given by a qualified '' Faqih'' (Islamic jurist) in response to a question posed by a private individual, judge or government. A jurist issuing fatwas is called a ''mufti'', and the act of issuing fatwas is called ''iftāʾ''.
