Farooq Qaiser ( Punjabi, ur, فاروق قیصر; 31 October 1945 – 14 May 2021) was a Pakistani artist, newspaper columnist, TV show director, puppeteer, script writer, and voice actor. He was known as the creator of the fictional puppet character Uncle Sargam introduced in 1976 in children's television show ''Kaliyan''. Farooq was also a cartoonist, newspaper columnist and wrote for the newspaper ''Daily Nai Baat'' in Lahore and under the pen name "Meethay Karelay" (English: "Sweet Bitter gourd"). Early life and education Farooq Qaiser was born on 31 October 1945 in a Muslim family in Sialkot, Punjab. He spent his early childhood in Peshawar and Kohat, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. In 1970, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts from the National College of Arts (NCA), Lahore. Uncle Sargam
Uncle Sargam ( ur, انکل سرگم) is a puppet character that first appeared in the Pakistani children's television show ''Kaliyan'', aired on PTV in 1976. Uncle Sargam was created and voiced by the award-winning puppeteer and television director Farooq Qaiser. Uncle Sargam and Maasi Museebtay are regarded as Pakistan's legendary puppet duo. The satirical Uncle Sargam was the most vocal critic on state television under General Zia-ul-Haq's dictatorship in the 1980s. Later appearances were in the TV show ''Daak Time'' in 1993. The character appeared and hosted a television talk show ''Syasi Kaliyan'' at Dawn News in 2010. The character also appeared in a Pakistan National Council of the Arts-organised show in Islamabad. A puppet is an object, often resembling a human, animal or Legendary creature, mythical figure, that is animated or manipulated by a person called a puppeteer.
