Farnell Newton
Farnell Newton (born March 21, 1977) is a composer and jazz trumpeter. Farnell Newton was born in Miami, Florida, and moved to Philadelphia in 1992, where he attended the Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts. While in Philadelphia, Newton also studied with his uncles, saxophonist/arranger Conny Murray and Sunny Murray, one of the early avant garde’s most inventive and influential drummers. Newton graduated from the Denver School of the Arts after moving to Denver in 1994 and then moved to Ohio to study at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. At Oberlin, Newton studied music performance with an emphasis in jazz and was mentored by Wendell Logan and trumpeter Kenny Davis. Newton performed with Aretha Franklin, James Moody, Muhal Richard Abrams, and Hugh Ragin while at Oberlin. Pete Krebs
Pete Krebs is an American musician from Portland, Oregon, best known as a member of the punk-pop band Hazel, and for '' No Confidence Man'', a split record with Elliott Smith. Career Krebs was a member of punk bands Hair Bed Peace, Thrillhammer and Hazel, bluegrass band Golden Delicious, gypsy swing band Pearl Django and later recorded solo as a singer-songwriter. Krebs debuted as a solo musician in 1995 on Cavity Search Records with the acoustic ''Brigadier''. In 1997, Krebs released ''Western Electric''. ''Sweet Ona Rose'', released in 1999, included former Soundgarden member Ben Shepherd on bass. Krebs collaborated with other Portland Gypsy-jazz enthusiasts on the album ''Hot Ginger and Dynamite'' in 2001. He also teamed up with Bad Livers singer and banjo virtuoso Danny Barnes for ''Duet For Clarinet and Goat'' (Cavity Search) in which the musicians covered each other's songs. The Chicharones
The Chicharones are an American/Canadian alternative hip hop duo, composed of Sleep of Oldominion and Josh Martinez, and are usually accompanied by DJ Zone. They are known for their socially conscious lyrics, energetic live performances and strong underground following. History The Chicharones formed in 2001 after a chance meeting between Oregon-based Sleep and Vancouver-based Josh Martinez at the ''South by Southwest'' music festival in Austin, Texas. Sleep was at the time a member of the hip hop collective Oldominion, of which he is still an active collaborator. Josh Martinez entered the duo from a career as a solo artist. Their name is a reference to chicharrones, a fried pork rind snack popular in Latin America and Spain. The duo debuted with the ''Boss Hogs EP'' in 2003. Willy Vlautin (born 1967) is an American author, musician and songwriter. He was the lead singer, guitarist and songwriter of Portland, Oregon rock band Richmond Fontaine (1994–2016) and is currently a member of The Delines.
