Farah Airport
Farah Airport is located in the eastern section of Farah, Afghanistan, Farah in Afghanistan, which is the capital city of Farah Province. The airport is under the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation (Afghanistan), Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation (MoTCA), and serves the population of southwestern Afghanistan. It currently provides domestic flight services to several cities but may include international flights sometime in the future. Farah Airport was used for military purposes in the past by the United States Armed Forces and the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), including the Afghan Air Force (AAF). It was renovated and expanded recently, with new facilities added for the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF). Farah (Dari: , ''Farā'') is one of the 34 provinces of Afghanistan, located in the southwestern part of the country next to Iran. It is a spacious and sparsely populated province, divided into eleven districts and contains hundreds of villages. Farah (Pashto/Dari: ) is the capital and largest city of Farah Province in western Afghanistan. It is located on the Farah River, close to the border with Iran. It is one of the largest cities of western Afghanistan in terms of population, with about 1.5 million people living in its urban area. Afghan Air Force
The Air Force of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, also referred to as the Islamic Emirate Air Force and the Afghan Air Force, is the air force branch of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. The Royal Afghan Air Force was established in 1921 under the reign of King Amanullah and significantly modernized by King Zahir Shah in the 1960s. During the 1980s, the Soviet Union built up the Afghan Air Force, first in an attempt to defeat the mujahideen and in hopes that strong Afghan airpower would preserve the pro-Soviet government of Mohammad Najibullah.
