Ernest Fanelli
Ernest Fanelli (29 June 1860 – 24 November 1917) was a French composer of Italian descent who is known for his works which have been considered as precursing Impressionism. He gained renown when his symphonic poem ''Thèbes'' premiered in Paris, a work incorporating elements associated with music ahead of its time, such as unique harmonies, extended chords, and polytonality. Fanelli was born in Paris to Italian parents and started studying music at the age of 10. He earned a living playing timpani and piano, eventually composing seriously when he was 22, although he abandoned the activity in 1894. Upon applying to work as a copyist for Gabriel Pierné in 1912, his music—a manuscript of ''Thèbes'', composed in 1883—astonished the latter, and a performance led to wide publicity and critical assessment of Fanelli's music and of the roots of the Impressionist style, especially that of Claude Debussy. Fanelli (born October 24, 1950) is a long-distance runner from the United States who represented American Samoa in the Athletics at the 1988 Summer Olympics – Men's marathon, marathon at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. Fanelli's 2:25:35 performance at the Olympics is an American Samoan records in athletics, American Samoan national record. Known for running in costume, he has been called "the crown prince of road racing", "the king of costume", and "road-racing's longest-running joke". Giuseppe Fanelli (13 October 1827 – 5 January 1877) was an Italian revolutionary anarchist, best known for his tour of Spain 1868, introducing the anarchist ideas of Mikhail Bakunin. Life and revolutionary path Fanelli was born in Naples, Italy on 13 October 1827. At the age of 18, he enrolled in Giovine Italia, a political movement with the goal to create a united Italian republic. He was active in the insurrectionary, united Italian republic Young Italy movement and fought in the Milan insurrection of the 1848 revolution. He went on to fight alongside Garibaldi's Redshirts in the ''Expedition of the Thousand'' in Sicily in 1860; he also fought in the Polish uprising in 1863. Francesco Fanelli
Francesco Fanelli (c. 1590–1653) was an Italian sculptor, born in Florence, who spent most of his career in England. He likely had contacts if not training in the studio of Giambologna, then in the hands of Pietro Francavilla and Pietro Tacca. He is recorded at work in Genoa in 1609-10 then worked in London from about 1610, as a sculptor in ivory — Joachim von Sandrart mentions an ivory statuette of Pygmalion that attracted the attention of Charles I of England — but mostly as a skilled bronze-caster. He made a fountain of sirens astride dolphins, alternating with scallop shells, with putti clasping fish and other figures, for the king at Hampton Court Palace. It was noticed by John Evelyn in 1662, and some elements remain, perched on a high rusticated base, as the Diana Fountain in Bushy Park. He received a pension in 1635 as "sculptor of the King". Biography Fanelli was born in New York City. His father, a Neapolitan, was his first harp teacher. By 1908 he was on the orchestra faculty at New York's Institute of Musical Art, now the Juilliard School, Dr. Frank Damrosch, director. From 1913 to 1930 he was principal harpist of the Philadelphia Orchestra under Leopold Stokowski. A hand problem developed during this period requiring the re-fingering of his music. Fanelli Cafe is a historic New York City restaurant and bar considered the city's second-oldest food-and-drink establishment in the same locale, having operated under various owners at 94 Prince Street since 1847. It served as a gathering place for artists during the transition of Manhattan's SoHo neighborhood from a manufacturing area to an arts community. History Erected in 1847, the retail site at 94 Prince Street, in the SoHo neighborhood of New York City's Manhattan borough, operated as a grocery store from that year to 1863. It then became a saloon for two years before becoming again a grocery for a year, and reverting to a saloon in 1867. Pier Simone Fanelli (29 December 1641 - 1703) was an Italian painter active in the Region of the Marche, active in a Baroque style. Biography He was born in Ancona and died in Cingoli. His training is unclear. By 1665-1666 he was painting in the church of the Filippini in Recanati. By 1680, he was employed by the Cappuccini in Macerata. In Macerata he worked with Giovanni Domenico Ferracuti, a landscape painter.
