Fancy Hill
Fancy Hill is a historic home located near Glasgow, Rockbridge County, Virginia, United States. The house was built in two phases, the first about 1821 and the second about 1831. The result is a two-story, eight-bay, Federal-style brick dwelling. Front and back two-story porches and two small rooms at the back of the house were added circa the 1840s. A 1½-story brick wing was added in 1936, when the house was renovated and back porch enclosed. Lexington is an independent city in the Commonwealth of Virginia. At the 2020 census, the population was 7,320. It is the county seat of Rockbridge County, although the two are separate jurisdictions. The Bureau of Economic Analysis combines the city of Lexington (along with nearby Buena Vista) with Rockbridge County for statistical purposes. Lexington is about east of the West Virginia border and is about north of Roanoke, Virginia. It was first settled in 1778. Glasgow, Virginia
Glasgow is a town in Rockbridge County, Virginia, United States, at the confluence of the James and Maury Rivers. The population was 1,133 at the 2010 census. Glasgow has had issues with flooding, notably during Hurricane Camille in 1969. As a result of flooding concerns, the Balcony Falls Dam (just east of the confluence of the James and Maury rivers) was removed in 1973. From 2001 to 2007, the town was known for having at least a dozen fiberglass dinosaur figures along the roadside. History German explorer John Peter Salling and his brother Adam were the first Europeans to settle in what is known today as Glasgow around 1741. Rockbridge County is a county in the Shenandoah Valley on the western edge of the Commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 22,650. Its county seat is the city of Lexington. Rockbridge County completely surrounds the independent cities of Buena Vista and Lexington. Federal Architecture
