Fan Death Records is an independent record label based in Baltimore, Maryland, and Montreal, Quebec. The label is operated by Sean Gray, Chris Berry, and Tracy Soo-Ming. Fan Death is affiliated with DNA Test Fest, a noise rock and experimental music festival held in Baltimore every year. The label began in 2007 in with Gray's radio show ''DNA in the DNA'' on WMUC-FM in College Park, Maryland. Locrian (band)
Locrian is an experimental music/ drone rock band which formed in Chicago, Illinois, United States in late 2005Downing, Andy (2009)Disturbing But Memorable Drone, ''Chicago Tribune'', June 5, 2009. and is currently based in Chicago and Baltimore, Maryland. The band features Terence Hannum (synthesizers, vocals, tape loops), Steven Hess (drums, electronics), and André Foisy (electric, 12-string, acoustic guitars, tape loops, and electronics). The group incorporates influences from multiple genres including ambient, black metal, noise, drone, industrial, and electronics, and cite One Eyed God Prophecy, Uranus, Yes, Genesis, Brian Eno, and Robert Fripp as influences. Noise Music Record Labels
Noise is unwanted sound considered unpleasant, loud or disruptive to hearing. From a physics standpoint, there is no distinction between noise and desired sound, as both are vibrations through a medium, such as air or water. The difference arises when the brain receives and perceives a sound. Acoustic noise is any sound in the acoustic domain, either deliberate (e.g., music or speech) or unintended. In contrast, noise in electronics may not be audible to the human ear and may require instruments for detection. In audio engineering, noise can refer to the unwanted residual electronic noise signal that gives rise to acoustic noise heard as a hiss. Purling Hiss
Purling Hiss is the rock music project of American multi-instrumentalist Mike Polizze. Based in Philadelphia, the project was named so because of its heavy use of distortion and white noise. Originally conceived for his own personal amusement and desire to experiment, Polizze eventually self-released '' Purling Hiss'' (2009) and began touring with a live band. History Philadelphia-based guitarist and songwriter Mike Polizze founded Purling Hiss in 2009 as an outlet for his solo recordings. Polizze was already an established musical figure in the Philadelphia rock scene, having previously played guitar with Birds of Maya. In 2009, he released his debut album '' Purling Hiss'', which comprised recordings made at his home studio. Purling Hiss' second album '' Hissteria'' was released in 2010. Roomrunner
Roomrunner was a noise rock group from Baltimore, Maryland, fronted by Denny Bowen, formerly of Double Dagger (band), Double Dagger, Yukon (band), Yukon, and Dan Deacon, The Dan Deacon Ensemble. The group also included prominent Baltimore recording engineer Dan Frome on bass. Past members have included Bowen's one-time Yukon (band), Yukon bandmate Sam Garrett, and John Jones, who went on to join Dope Body. To date, they have released a cassette tape and an Extended play, EP on Fan Death Records and have toured North America, playing with the likes of Dan Deacon, Future of the Left, and METZ. The name Roomrunner comes from the wasei Japanese word used for "treadmill." The band's sound has been described as "a conscious effort to revive the fuzz and feedback-laden churn of early-1990s indie rock. . . [but] theirs is a more ebullient take on the genre." Ed Schrader's Music Beat
Ed Schrader's Music Beat is an American two piece rock duo of Ed Schrader and Devlin Rice from Baltimore, Maryland. According to The Boston Hassle, the duo has "a gas pedal/brake pedal sonic narrative, careening without warning between cross-eyed tantrums and sultry, eyebrow-cocked croons." They have released albums on Infinity Cat Recordings, Load Records, Upset The Rhythm, and Famous Class Records. Touring with bands such as Future Islands, Ceremony, and Wye Oak, the duo has been described as "one of contemporary punk’s best examples of testing the possibilities" and has performed across the U.S. and Europe. Psychedelic Horseshit is an American band from Columbus, Ohio, that plays a microgenre of lo-fi noise pop that they named "shitgaze".
