Family Policy Council
A Family Policy Council (FPC) is one of several US state-level organizations affiliated with Focus on the Family (FotF), a nationwide conservative Christian organization. Family Policy Councils work for policies that FotF describes as "pro-family". These include opposition to same-sex marriage, LGBT adoption, and LGBT workplace protections, and support for abstinence-only sex education, increased legal restrictions on abortion and traditional Christian gender roles. FPCs also work to shape public opinion, organize political demonstrations, and cultivate future politicians. FPCs form a network or "alliance" through which FotF exerts influence on local and state-level policy. They are joined via the organization Family Policy Alliance. Family Policy Alliance (FPA), formerly CitizenLink and Focus on the Family Action, is an American conservative Christian organization that acts as the lobbying arm of Focus on the Family at the level of state government politics. It is an umbrella organization for an "alliance" of state organizations known as Family Policy Councils which are state-level Focus on the Family affiliates. The stated mission of Family Policy Alliance is "to advance biblical citizenship, equip and elect statesmen, promote policy and serve an effective alliance, all committed to a common vision". The organization opposes and advocates against same-sex marriage, transgender rights, legal abortion, sexual consent education, marijuana decriminalization, and the Equal Rights Amendment. The Christian Civic League of Maine is a political lobbying group founded to support prohibition of alcohol and later advocating for various conservative Christian policies in the government of the US state of Maine. It is the Focus on the Family affiliate organization (known as a Family Policy Council) for Maine, and its policy priorities today resemble that of this parent organization. Social conservatism is a political philosophy and variety of conservatism which places emphasis on traditional power structures over social pluralism. A 501(c) organization is a nonprofit organization in the Law of the United States#Federal law, federal law of the United States according to Internal Revenue Code (26 U.S.C. § 501(c)) and is one of over 29 types of nonprofit organizations exempt from some Taxation in the United States, federal Income tax in the United States, income taxes. Colorado Family Action
Colorado Family Action (CFA) was a Christian fundamentalist lobbying organization founded in 2007. It opposed gay marriage or domestic partnership, gay adoption, and adoption by unmarried people. The organization advocated for conversion therapy, the pseudoscientific practice of trying to change sexual orientation. It fought against birth control access and legal marijuana. CFA was a Family Policy Council, meaning that it was a state-based affiliate of Focus on the Family. The organization was dissolved in 2023. Anti-LGBT policy Colorado Family Action director Debbie Chaves stated there is an " LGBTQ agenda driving policy" in Colorado which justifies CFA's support for legal conversion therapy. Wisconsin Family Council (WFC) is an American 501(c)(3) group that advocates for Christian fundamentalist policy. WFC's Madison, Wisconsin headquarters also house its 501(c)(4) government lobbying arm, Wisconsin Family Action.
