Famiano Meneschincheri
Famiano Meneschincheri (born 13 November 1957) is an Italian former professional tennis player. Born in Rome, Meneschincheri is nicknamed "Mino" and comes from a tennis playing family. His younger brother Marco, as well as cousins Roberto and Stefano, were all professional tennis players. Meneschincheri's best performances on the Grand Prix tennis circuit came in 1980 when he made the second round of the Japan Open and Sofia Open. Tennis Player
Tennis is a racket sport that is played either individually against a single opponent (singles) or between two teams of two players each (doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent's court. Marco Meneschincheri (born 25 April 1972) is a former professional tennis player from Italy. Biography Career Born in Rome, Meneschincheri began playing tennis professionally in 1990. He played mostly on the Challenger circuit and won a title in the Uruguayan city of Punta del Este in 1997, despite suffering an injury scare earlier in the tournament in an unusual incident. During his second round encounter against Cecil Mamiit, the Italian was hit in the head by a billboard which had blown towards him and was forced to go to hospital after losing consciousness. The match was suspended but later resumed after he was given the all clear. In 1998 he reached his highest career ranking, 131 in the world. His ATP Tour main draw appearances include two top-tier (now known as Masters) tournaments in 1999, the German Open in Hamburg and Italian Open, making the second round of the former. The Grand Prix tennis circuit was a professional tennis tour for male players that existed from 1970 to 1989. The Grand Prix and World Championship Tennis (WCT) were the two predecessors to the current tour for male players, the ATP Tour, with the Grand Prix being more prominent. Background Before the Open Era, popular professional tennis players, such as Suzanne Lenglen and Vincent Richards, were contracted to professional promoters. Amateur players were under the jurisdiction of their national (and international) federations. Later professional promoters, such as Bill Tilden and Jack Kramer, often convinced leading amateurs like Pancho Gonzales and Rod Laver to join their tours with promises of good prize money. The Japan Open (currently sponsored by Rakuten) is a men's tennis tournament held in Ariake Tennis Forest Park with its center court Ariake Coliseum, located in Koto, Tokyo, Japan. It was originally founded in 1915 as the Japan International Championships. In 2018, the venue switched to the Musashino Forest Sports Plaza as the Ariake Coliseum is being renovated for the tennis events at the 2020 Summer Olympics. The championship includes men's singles and doubles competitions. From 1979 until 2008 the Japan Open was a joint tournament for both men and women.
