''Fallen Leaves'' ( fi, Kuolleet lehdet, lit=Dead Leaves) is a 2023 Finnish-German comedy-drama film written and directed by Aki Kaurismäki. It is Kaurismäki's 20th full-length film and a continuation of his ''Proletariat'' series, which was originally planned as a trilogy and already includes ''Shadows in Paradise (1986 film), Shadows in Paradise'' (1986), ''Ariel (film), Ariel'' (1988), and ''The Match Factory Girl'' (1990). Alma Pöysti and Jussi Vatanen star in the main roles. The film is produced by Sputnik and Bufo (company), Bufo. The film premiered on 22 May 2023 at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, 76th Cannes Film Festival, and was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or in its main competition section, where it won the Jury Prize (Cannes Film Festival), Jury Prize. Aki Kaurismäki
Aki Olavi Kaurismäki (; born 4 April 1957) is a Finnish film director and screenwriter. He is best known for the award-winning '' Drifting Clouds'' (1996), ''The Man Without a Past'' (2002), ''Le Havre'' (2011) and ''The Other Side of Hope'' (2017), as well as for the mockumentary ''Leningrad Cowboys Go America'' (1989). He is described as Finland's best-known film director. Career After graduating in media studies from the University of Tampere, Kaurismäki worked as a bricklayer, postman, and dish-washer, long before pursuing his interest in cinema, first as a critic, and later as a screenwriter & director. Finland has submitted thirty-five films for consideration in the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film category. The Award is handed out annually by the United States Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. Maustetytöt (; ) is a Finnish girl group consisting of sisters and . The band's trademarks include a laconic and serious-looking performance style. Originally from Vaala and currently living in Kallio, Helsinki, Maustetytöt listen to traditional Finnish schlager, and their role model is Leevi and the Leavings. Maria Heiskanen (born 21 August 1970) is a Finnish actress. She works in cinema, television and theatre. Life Heiskanen's early role in the 1991 Swedish film '' Il Capitano: A Swedish Requiem'' directed by Jan Troell. Martti Juhani Suosalo (born 19 July 1962) is a Finnish actor and singer. Suosalo was born in Oulu, and began his career in 1986 with an appearance in a TV series. He began to work as a regular actor on Finnish television but also appeared in several films in the early 1990s such as the 1994 film '' Aapo'' alongside actors such as Taisto Reimaluoto, Ulla Koivuranta and Kai Lehtinen. Tragicomedy is a literary genre that blends aspects of both tragedy, tragic and comedy, comic forms.
