''Fake'' is the second and final album by British alternative rock band Adorable, released in 1994. The sound of the album was influenced by American indie rock, a shift from the Britpop of the band's debut. The album sold poorly, and Adorable were dropped from their label. Adorable (band)
Adorable were an English alternative rock band, formed in Coventry in 1990. The band consisted of vocalist and guitarist Pete Fijalkowski, guitarist Robert Dillam, bassist Stephen 'Wil' Williams and drummer Kevin Gritton. History Adorable formed in September 1990. Prior to that the band was known as The Candy Thieves, and their only record included an early version of "Homeboy" and another song "Underwater" that fitted the then-current baggy trend. The single was released on Trolley Records in 1990. However guitarist Wayne Peters left the band out of frustration with their lack of success and was replaced by Robert Dillam, prompting the name change to Adorable. Adorable's first gig was in Coventry at the Tic Toc club on the night that the first Gulf War started in January 1991. Shoegaze (originally called shoegazing and sometimes conflated with "dream pop") is a subgenre of indie and alternative rock characterized by its ethereal mixture of obscured vocals, guitar distortion and effects, feedback, and overwhelming volume.Pete Prown / Harvey P. Creation Records
Creation Records Ltd. was a British independent record label founded in 1983 by Alan McGee, Dick Green, and Joe Foster. Its name came from the 1960s band The Creation, whom McGee greatly admired. The label ceased operations in 1999, although it was revived at one point in 2011 for the release of the compilation album ''Upside Down''. Paul Corkett
Paul Corkett is a British record producer, engineer and arranger. Biography Paul got his start as an engineer in the mid-1980s, engineering singles and albums for bands as varied as ABC, the Chameleons, Twelfth Night and the Heart Throbs. He landed his first big engineering gig in 1992, recording the single " China" for Tori Amos's debut album ''Little Earthquakes''. In 1994, he produced his first full album, the second album '' Fake'' by Adorable. His engineering work on the Cure's tenth album ''Wild Mood Swings'' led to him producing the band's next album, ''Bloodflowers'', released in 2000. ''Against Perfection'' is the debut album by the British alternative rock band Adorable. It was released in the UK on 1 March 1993 on Creation Records and in the United States by SBK. The band supported the album with a North American tour. "Still Life" was recorded without the inclusion of drums. "Sunshine Smile" was a college radio hit. Critical reception ''The Washington Post'' wrote that the album "sometimes balances the harsh and the lyrical in the manner of My Bloody Valentine, but ultimately seems more indebted to the minor-key epics of early Echo and the Bunnymen." Britpop
Britpop was a mid-1990s British-based music culture movement that emphasised Britishness. It produced brighter, catchier alternative rock, partly in reaction to the popularity of the darker lyrical themes of the US-led grunge music and to the UK's own shoegaze music scene. The movement brought British alternative rock into the mainstream and formed the backbone of a larger British popular cultural movement, Cool Britannia, which evoked the Swinging Sixties and the British guitar pop of that decade. Britpop was a media-driven focus on bands which emerged from the independent music scene of the early 1990s. Peter Jeremy Fijalkowski (born 11 December 1968 in Surrey) is an English vocalist, guitarist and songwriter formerly with the bands Adorable and Polak, and currently plays with Terry Bickers of the House of Love in the duo Pete Fij / Terry Bickers. Polak also featured his brother, Krzyz Fijalkowski (born Christopher Martin Fijalkowski 1962 in Surrey), formerly of The Bardots. He has used variants of his name in the different projects he has worked on – using the Polish spelling of his birth name Peter, Piotr Fijalkowski in Adorable and the shortened Pete Fij for his work with Terry Bickers.
