Fairlie Dalphatado
Fairlie George Dalpathado (17 August 1924 – 6 January 2010) was a cricketer who played three matches of first-class cricket for Ceylon in 1949 and 1950. A middle-order batsman and medium-pace bowler, Fairlie Dalphatado was a champion schoolboy cricketer at St Joseph's College, Colombo. He captained the school's team in 1943, when they went through the season unbeaten and finished by dismissing the Combined Schools XI for 35, Dalphatado taking 6 for 17. After leaving school he had a long career in domestic cricket with Sinhalese Sports Club, and coached the cricket team at St Joseph's College for more than 20 years. He represented Ceylon in the unofficial Test against the touring West Indians in 1948-49 and toured Pakistan with Ceylon in 1949-50, when he played in both unofficial Tests. Chilaw
Chilaw ( si, හලාවත, translit=Halāvata, ta, சிலாபம், translit=Cilāpam) is a large town in Puttalam District, North Western Province, Sri Lanka. It is governed by an urban council. The town is located 80 kilometres away from Colombo via Negombo. Etymology The name Chilaw derives its name from its Tamil name ''Cilāpam'', meaning pearl fishery. Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cathedral The seat of the Chilaw Diocese, this cathedral has a history of more than two centuries. According to legend, 200 years ago, most of what is now Chilaw Town was covered by a forest. A woman was searching for firewood and heard the sound of a lady speaking, "Please take me". She stopped her work and searched for the source of the sound. A statue of Mother Mary was on a tree. Tennis is a racket sport that is played either individually against a single opponent ( singles) or between two teams of two players each ( doubles). The Sri Lanka cricket team, Ceylon cricket team toured Pakistan in March and April 1950. Ceylon did not then have Test cricket, Test status, but two four-day unofficial Tests were played, Pakistan cricket team, Pakistan winning both by large margins. The tour also included three other first-class cricket, first-class matches and a minor match.
