Faina Melnik
Faina Grigorievna Melnik (russian: Фаина Григорьевна Велева-Мельник, uk, Фаїна Григорівна Мельник (''Faina Hryhorivna Melnyk''); 9 June 1945 – 16 December 2016) was a Soviet discus thrower, a 1972 Summer Olympics champion in the discus event. During her career she set 11 world records. Career Melnik was Jewish, and was born in Bakota, Khmelnytskyi, Ukraine. At the 1972 Summer Olympics, she broke the Olympic record three times, and set a world record at 66.62 metres. She had already broken the world record, at the 1971 European Athletics Championships, representing the then Soviet Union. In 1976 she had her best ever discus throw of 70.50 m, but finished only fourth at the 1976 Summer Olympics. At those Olympics she also competed in the shot put and finished tenth. Bakota, Ukraine
Bakota ( uk, Ба́кота) is a historic submerged settlement of the Galicia-Volhynia, Rus Kingdom, modern-day Khmelnytskyi Oblast (oblast, province) in western Ukraine. The village lies beneath the Dniester, Dniester River and is located in the Ukrainian historical regions, historical Podolia, Podillia region. Bakota has an ancient Eastern Orthodox Church, Orthodox cave monastery (48.585647°N, 26.999702°E), which includes ancient frescoes and paintings dating back to the 12th-14th centuries, as well as preserved remains of monks. Local legend has it that the Bakota Cave Monastery was founded by Anthony of Kiev, Saint Anthony of Kiev, who also founded the historic Kiev Pechersk Lavra in 1051, now in Kyiv, Ukraine. The Universiade is an international multi-sport event, organized for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The name is a portmanteau of the words "University" and "Olympiad". Svetlana Vladimirovna Krivelyova (russian: Светлана Владимировна Кривелёва; born 13 June 1969) is a former track and field athlete who specialised in the shot put. Krivelyova was born in Bryansk, Russia. Her career highlights were the Summer Olympics gold medal in 1992 whilst representing the Unified Team where she beat the reigning world champion Huang Zhihong of China and her World Championship victory in 2003. Her most unlikely victory came at the 2004 World Indoor Championships. She was awarded the gold medal after Ukraine's Vita Pavlysh was stripped of her title for failing a drug test. This was the second time Pavlysh was found to have taken anabolic steroids and lost a World indoor title; she was subsequently banned from athletics for life. Natalya Venediktovna Lisovskaya (russian: Наталья Венедиктовна Лисовская; born 16 July 1962) is a Soviet former athlete who competed mainly in shot put. Lisovskaya trained at Spartak in Moscow. Career Born in Alegazy, Bashkir ASSR, Lisovskaya competed for the USSR in the 1988 Summer Olympics held in Seoul, South Korea where she won the gold medal. Lisovskaya holds the world record in women's shot put with a throw of , which she achieved on 7 June 1987 in Moscow, Russia. She also has the three farthest throws of all time by a female shot putter. After her career, she gained French citizenship and competed between 1999 and 2002 at some local competitions in France.
