Jerry Fahr
Gerald Warren Fahr (December 9, 1924 – February 12, 2010) was an American professional baseball player, a right-handed pitcher who played in the minor leagues from 1947–1956, with the exception of a five-game Major League trial as a relief pitcher for the Cleveland Indians during the 1951 season. Born in Marmaduke, Arkansas, Fahr made his professional debut with the Vernon Dusters, and played for them for two seasons. In 1947, he had a win-loss record of 16-18, then had a 21-8 record and a 1.96 earned run average (ERA). After spending 1949 with three teams, Fahr played for the Shreveport Sports in 1950, and had a 10-6 record and a 2.72 ERA. At the end of the season, the Cleveland Indians signed him to a contract and added him to the major league roster. Fahr made his Major League debut on April 29, 1951 for the Indians, allowing three hits, a base on balls and two earned runs in one inning against the St. Louis Browns. Julius Fahr
Julius Fahr (1925–2003) was a Canadian businessman, entrepreneur and philanthropist. Early life Fahr immigrated to Canada in 1951 following his studies at a teachers college where he majored in History and Languages, mastering five of them. Once in Canada he chose to shovel coal instead of accepting teaching jobs until he received a salesman position at BrettYoung Seed Company. Shortly after, Fahr became manager of the hatchery and part owner at the firm. During this time, Fahr started farming in East St. Paul in 1954. Career In 1975 Brett Young Seed was sold to Mackenzie Seeds. With extra time on his hands, he became a member of the German Business Professional Association and held the position of President from 1976 to 1977, and a director at Hansa Credit Union. Karl Theodor Fahr
Karl Theodor Fahr (; 3 October 1877 – 29 October 1945) was a German pathologist born in Pirmasens of the Rhineland-Palatinate. In 1903 he earned his medical doctorate from the University of Giessen, afterwards continuing his studies with Eugen Bostroem (1850-1926) in Giessen, under Morris Simmonds (1855-1925) in Hamburg and with Ilya Ilyich Metchnikoff (1845-1916) in Paris. In 1924, he became director of the pathological institute at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf. Fahr is remembered for his work in nephrology and research of kidney disorders. With internist Franz Volhard (1872-1950) he published a comprehensive monograph on Bright's disease titled ''Die Brightsche Nierenkrankheit''. In 1923, he provided an early correlation between lung cancer (''Bronchialkarzinom'') and tobacco smoking. Fahr Convent, (german: Kloster Fahr) is a Benedictine convent located in the Swiss municipality of Unterengstringen in the canton of Zürich. Located in different cantons, Einsiedeln Abbey and Fahr Convent form a double monastery, overseen by the male Abbot of Einsiedeln, no converse arrangement appears to be available for the Abbess of Fahr. Fahr and Einsiedeln may be one of the last of such arrangements to survive. Geographical and administratively special situation Historically the convent was located in an exclave of canton Aargau within the municipality of Unterengstringen in the canton of Zürich in the Limmat Valley. (PFBC), also known as familial idiopathic basal ganglia calcification (FIBGC) and Fahr's disease, is a rare, genetically dominant, inherited neurological disorder characterized by abnormal deposits of calcium in areas of the brain that control movement. Through the use of CT scans, calcifications are seen primarily in the basal ganglia and in other areas such as the cerebral cortex. Signs and symptoms Symptoms of this disease include deterioration of motor functions and speech, seizures, and other involuntary movement. Other symptoms are headaches, dementia, and vision impairment. Characteristics of Parkinson's Disease are also similar to PFBC.
