FO Vrilissia
FO Vrilissia, full name ''Filathlitikos Omilos Vrilissia'' ( el, Φιλαθλητικός Όμιλος Βριλησσίων) is Greek volleyball club based in Vrilissia, Athens. It is mainly active in women volleyball and it is one of the most successful clubs in this sport. FO Vrilissia has won 9 Panhellenic titles in women volleyball (5 championships and 4 cups). Despite its successful presence the club retreated from the championship in season 2014-15 due to financial problems and relegated to second tier championship (A2 Ethniki). History FO Vrilissia was founded in 1985. At season 1994-95, it won the first championship. Thereafter the club won another four championship (the last in 2003), and four cups (the last in 2004). The next years the club faced financial problems. At season 2005-06 withdrew from the championship and relegated to second tier championship (A2 Ethniki). Vrilissia ( el, Βριλήσσια) is a suburban municipality of the North Athens (regional unit), North Athens regional unit, in the Attica (region), Attica region. It is located in the Athens basin, at the southwestern foot of the Mount Pentelicus, Penteli Mountain. At the 2011 census, the municipality had 30,741 residents. A1 Ethniki Women's Volleyball
The Greek Women's Volleyball League is organised by Hellenic Volleyball Federation (Greek:Ελληνική Ομοσπονδία Πετοσφαίρισης). In 2021–22 championship took part 14 clubs. Panathinaikos won the first championship in 1971. During the first decade, Panathinaikos and ZAON Kifissia dominated. Panathinaikos have won 24 championships so far, more than any other team. A2 Ethniki Women's Volleyball is the 2nd-tier of championship of women's volleyball in Greece. Since current year, the championship is held in four subgroups of teams. The winners of each subgroups take part in play off games. The winners of play off team take part in final four and three best teams promote to A1 Ethniki. Volleyball Clubs Established In 1985
Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team's court under organized rules. It has been a part of the official program of the Summer Olympic Games since Tokyo 1964. Beach volleyball was introduced to the programme at the Atlanta 1996. The adapted version of volleyball at the Summer Paralympic Games is sitting volleyball. The complete set of rules is extensive, but play essentially proceeds as follows: a player on one of the teams begins a 'rally' by serving the ball (tossing or releasing it and then hitting it with a hand or arm), from behind the back boundary line of the court, over the net, and into the receiving team's court.
