FK Liepāja is a Latvian professional football club established in 2014. The club is based at the Daugava Stadium in Liepāja. FK Liepāja plays in the Latvian Higher League. In their first season they finished 4th in the 2014 Latvian Higher League. History FK Liepāja/Mogo was founded in March 2014 as a phoenix club and an indirect legatee of FK Liepājas Metalurgs, which was dissolved following the 2013 Latvian Higher League season due to the bankruptcy of its owner company and the sole sponsor metallurgical plant ''A/S Liepājas Metalurgs''. FK Liepāja incorporated all the players, including youth teams, as well as the participation place in the 2014 Latvian Higher League, which had been at the disposal of Liepājas Metalurgs prior to its bankruptcy. Daugava Stadium (Liepāja)
Daugava Stadium () is a multi-purpose stadium in Liepāja, Latvia. It is currently used mostly for football (soccer), football matches and is the home stadium of FK Liepāja, also it was the home stadium of FHK Liepājas Metalurgs. The stadium holds 4,022 people, and hosted the Baltic Cup (football), Baltic Cup in Baltic Cup 1992, 1992, Baltic Cup 1998, 1998, 2014 Baltic Cup, 2014, 2016 Baltic Cup, 2016 and Baltic Cup 2024, 2024. The Latvia women's national football team, women's national side have also played at the stadium. The 2015 Latvian Higher League is the 24th season of top-tier football in Latvia. FK Ventspils are the defending champions. The season started on 13 March 2015. Teams FC Jūrmala relegated at the end of last season, and was replaced by FB Gulbene, which returned to the highest level after two years. Because FC Daugava did not obtain a license to play in the 2015 Higher League, and FK Daugava was dissolved before the beginning of the new season, the league started with 8 participants. On 3 June 2015, FB Gulbene was expelled from the top league and their results expunged on suspicion of match-fixing. The 2019 Latvian Football Cup was the 25th edition of the football tournament. The competition began on 22 May 2019 and ended on 26 October 2019. Ģirts Karlsons (born 7 June 1981) is a Latvian former professional footballer who played as a forward. Club career As a youth player Karlsons played for his local club Liepājas Metalurgs, being taken to the first team in 1998, at the age of 17. He spent the next six seasons with the club, becoming the second top scorer of the Latvian Higher League in 2003 with 26 goals, completing two hat-tricks during the season. All in all he played 96 matches for his local club, scoring 40 goals. After these bright appearances he had impressed clubs abroad, and in January 2004 Karlsons went on a month-long trial with the Russian Premier League club Shinnik Yaroslavl. Afterwards he signed a three-year contract with them. However, his spell there was not as successful as expected and was very short. Artūrs Karašausks (born 29 January 1992) is a Latvian professional footballer who plays as a forward for Cambodian club Visakha. Club career Early career Karašausks was born in Riga. As a youth player he was a member of the JFC Skonto academy. He was signed by the Latvian Higher League club JFK Olimps/RFS in January 2009, making his top flight debut at the age of 17. He scored his first goal for the club in a 1–1 league draw against SK Blāzma on 11 June 2009, being just 17 years, 4 months and 17 days old. In less than a month after Karašausks managed to score his first ever hat-trick in a 7–0 league victory over Rīgas Futbola skola. Oskars Kļava
Oskars Kļava (born 8 August 1983) is a Latvian football coach and a former defender who currently is an assistant manager at FK Grobiņa. He was the general manager of Spartaks Jūrmala in 2022 and director of Liepāja Football School (Liepājas FS). Career Club Kļava was born in Liepāja. As a youth player he played for his local club Liepājas Metalurgs, making his first-team debut in 2002. That year he also made his Euro competitions' debut and was sent off against the Austrian club FC Kärnten in a 2002–03 UEFA Cup qualifying round match, which Kärnten won 2–0 on 15 August 2002. With the number of appearances growing each season, Kļava played in Liepāja for 9 seasons. He became a first eleven player in 2005.
