FIVB World League 1997
The 1997 FIVB Volleyball World League was the eighth edition of the annual men's international volleyball tournament, played by 12 countries from 16 May to 5 July 1997. The Final Round was held in Moscow, Russia. Pools composition Intercontinental round *The top two teams in each pool will qualify for the Final Round. If the Final Round hosts Russia finish lower than second in Pool C, they will still qualify along with the best two second teams across all three pools. Pool A Pool B Pool C Final round *Venue: Olimpiyskiy Stadium, Moscow, Russia Pool play *Teams from the same pool of Intercontinental Round will not play. FIVB Volleyball World League
The FIVB Volleyball World League was an annual international men's volleyball competition. Created in 1990, it was the longest and richest of all the international events organized by the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB). The women's version of the competition was called FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix. This event should not be confused with the other international volleyball competitions, the FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship, World Championship, the FIVB Volleyball Men's World Cup, World Cup and the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Champions Cup, World Grand Champions Cup. Volleyball
Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team's court under organized rules. It has been a part of the official program of the Summer Olympic Games since Tokyo 1964. Beach volleyball was introduced to the programme at the Atlanta 1996. The adapted version of volleyball at the Summer Paralympic Games is sitting volleyball. The complete set of rules is extensive, but play essentially proceeds as follows: a player on one of the teams begins a 'rally' by serving the ball (tossing or releasing it and then hitting it with a hand or arm), from behind the back boundary line of the court, over the net, and into the receiving team's court. The receiving team must not let the ball be grounded within their court. Olympic Stadium (Moscow)
Olympic Stadium (russian: Олимпийский стадион) (known locally as Olimpiyskiy) was an indoor arena, located in Moscow, Russia. It was built for the 1980 Summer Olympics and, divided into two separated halls, hosted the basketball and boxing events. It closed in March 2019 and was demolished, for the construction of a new complex, in 2020. Sebastiaan Jacques Henri "Bas" van de Goor (born 4 September 1971, in Oss) is a retired volleyball player from the Netherlands, who represented his native country at two consecutive Summer Olympics, starting in 1996. He was elected twice as the most valuable player of the Olympic (1996-2000). At his Olympic debut, he won the gold medal, alongside his younger brother and three-time Olympian Mike, by defeating arch rivals Italy (3-2) in the final.
