FIS Ski Flying World Championships 1986
The 1986 FIS Ski Flying World Ski Championships took place on 8–9 March 1986 at Kulm in Bad Mitterndorf, Austria. The venue had previously hosted the 1975 Ski Flying World Championships. It was the first time a nation won more than one medal at the same championships, with host nation Austria earning gold and silver in the event. For the second and final time, the championships were held in consecutive years (1972 and 1973 being the others). These championships have been held in even-numbered years since this one. The event is notorious for three massive accidents which occurred due to dangerous wind conditions. Bad Mitterndorf
Bad Mitterndorf is a town in Salzkammergut in the Austrian state of Styria. Situated between Salzburg and Graz, it is a popular winter sports resort and also as a location for walking and cycling in the summer. Bad Mitterndorf is the site of two health spas with thermal baths, an outdoor swimming pool and other health amenities, cafés and leisure areas. The town hosts a children's club during the holidays. The FIS Ski Flying World Ski Championships 1972, the first ever ski flying world championships took place on 25 March 1972 in Planica, Yugoslavia. A total of 110,000 people has gathered in three days. Schedule Competition On 22 March 1972 hill test was originally scheduled, but hill wasn't ready yet to be used due to warm weather and was canceled. A few training jumps were performed at neighbour Bloudkova velikanka. On 24 March 1972 first ever ski flying world championships was officially opened with official training in front of 20,000 visitors. Three rounds were on schedule; trial round and two rounds for official training which would be valid as official championships final results if jumping would be impossible due to unpredicted weather conditions over the weekend competition day. Ski flying is a winter sport discipline derived from ski jumping, in which much greater distances can be achieved. It is a form of competitive individual Nordic skiing where athletes descend at high speed along a specially designed takeoff ramp using skis only; jump from the end of it with as much power as they can generate; then glide – or 'fly' – as far as possible down a steeply sloped hill; and ultimately land within a target zone in a stable manner. Andreas Felder
Andreas Felder (born 6 March 1962) is an Austrian former ski jumper. During this period he dominated the sport, together with contemporaries Jens Weißflog and Matti Nykänen. He finished in the top three overall six times in the World Cup and won the 1990/91 overall. He won his first international championship medal at the 1982 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo with a silver medal in the team large hill event. Career His big breakthrough came in the 1984/85 season. In December that year he won the World cup competition in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. He won six competitions in that season, but ended in 2nd place overall behind Matti Nykänen. FIS Ski Flying World Championships
The FIS Ski Flying World Championships is a ski flying event organised by the International Ski Federation and held every two years. The event takes place on hills much larger than ski jumping hills, with the K-point set between and . Unlike ordinary ski jumping, the Ski Flying World Champion is determined after four jumps. 40 jumpers qualify for the competition and jump the first round, 10 are eliminated, and the 30 remaining jumpers compete in the last three rounds. The person with most points combined after four jumps is declared the World Champion. In 2004, the FIS introduced a team event between national teams of four jumpers, with two jumps each.
