FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 1966
The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 1966 took place 17–27 February 1966 in Oslo, Norway at the Holmenkollen ski arena. This was the third time the Norwegian capital hosted this event having done so in 1930 and at the 1952 Winter Olympics. This also equaled the most times a city had hosted with Lahti, Finland (1926, 1938, 1958) and Zakopane, Poland (1929, 1939, and 1962). Oslo
Oslo ( , , or ; sma, Oslove) is the capital and most populous city of Norway. It constitutes both a county and a municipality. The municipality of Oslo had a population of in 2022, while the city's greater urban area had a population of in 2019, and the metropolitan area had an estimated population of in 2021. Harald Grønningen
Harald Grønningen (9 October 1934 – 26 August 2016) was a Norwegian cross-country skier who competed during the 1960s, earning five winter olympic and two world championship medals. He also won nine Norwegian championship titles and received the King's cup in 1963 and 1967. Grønningen won the 15 km twice (1960 and 1961) at the Holmenkollen ski festival and earned the Holmenkollen medal in 1961. Grønningen was born in Lensvik. He was also an able long distance runner. Berit Mørdre
Berit Mørdre-Lammedal (née Mørdre, 16 April 1940 – 23 August 2016) was a Norwegian cross-country skier. She competed at the 1968 and 1972 Olympics in the 5 km, 10 km and 3 × 5 km relay events and won a complete set of medals: a gold, a silver and a bronze. She also won a silver medal in the relay at the 1966 World Championships. Mørdre was born and raised on a farm in Nes, but since 1965 lived in Oslo, where she worked as a police officer. In 1969 she married, and changed her last name to Mørdre-Lammedal. She took part in several Holmenkollen ski festivals, winning the 5 km race in 1974. Inger Aufles
Inger Aufles (née ''Døving'' on 29 May 1941) is a retired Norwegian cross-country skier who competed during the 1960s and 1970s. She won three Winter Olympic medals with a gold (3 × 5 km relay: 1968) and two bronzes (10 km: 1968, 3 × 5 km relay: 1972). Aufles also earned a silver in the 3 × 5 km relay at the 1966 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo. She won the national championships in 1968 and 1969, in the 10 km and 5 km respectively. Toini Gustafsson
Toini Gustafsson Rönnlund (born Toini Karvonen; 17 January 1938) is a Swedish former cross-country skier. She competed in the 1964 and 1968 Winter Olympics and won four medals. Gustafsson also won the 10 km race at the Holmenkollen ski festival in each of 1960, 1967, and 1968. At the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships she collected three medals with a silver in 1962 (3 × 5 km relay) and two bronzes in 1966 (10 km and 3×5 km relay). For her successes in Nordic skiing and at the Holmenkollen, Gustafsson received the Holmenkollen medal in 1967 (Shared with Ole Ellefsæter). She is the first Swedish woman to win the Holmenkollen medal. In 1968, she was awarded the Svenska Dagbladet Gold Medal. She was married twice and had a daughter, Eva, born in 1956. Rita Achkina
Rita Nikolayevna Achkina (russian: Рита Николаевна Ачкина; born 1 February 1938) is a retired Belarusian cross-country skier. In 1965 she won the 5 km, 10 km and 3 × 5 km relay events at the Soviet championships. Next year she earned two medals at the 1966 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships with a gold in the 3 × 5 km relay and a bronze in the 5 km. She competed in these two events at the 1968 Winter Olympics and won a bronze medal in the relay, placing sixth individually. After retiring from competitions she worked as elementary school teacher. Klavdiya Boyarskikh
Klavdiya Sergeyevna Boyarskikh (russian: Клавдия Сергеевна Боярских; 11 November 1939 – 12 December 2009) was a Soviet cross-country skier who competed in the 1960s. In 1964, Boyarskikh won her first Soviet titles, in the 5 km and relay, and was selected for the Olympic Games. There she ran the fastest leg of the 3 × 5 km relay, and became the first female cross-country skier to win all Olympic events. In 1966, she won two more national titles, in the 5 and 10 km, as well as two world titles. Next year she had her last two national victories, in the 5 km and relay. She also won three times at the Holmenkollen ski festival with two wins in 10 km (1965, 1966) and one win in the 5 km (1967). Alevtina Kolchina
Alevtina Pavlovna Kolchina (russian: Алевти́на Па́вловна Ко́лчина alternate spelling: Alevtina Koltsjina; 11 November 1930 – 1 March 2022) was a Soviet cross-country skier who competed during the 1950s and 1960s for Burevestnik and later for Dynamo sports societies. She competed in four Winter Olympics, earning a total of five medals. Kolchina also competed several times at the Holmenkollen ski festival, winning three times at 10 km (1961–1963) and once at 5 km (1966). Francesco "Franco" Nones (born 1 February 1941) is an Italian former cross-country skier who competed during the 1960s. Biography Nones was born in Castello-Molina di Fiemme. His best known finish was a gold medal in the 30 km event at the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble, making Nones the first non-Scandinavian (Finland, Norway, and Sweden) and non-Soviet/Russian male to win a Winter Olympic cross-country skiing gold medal.
