FIS Freestyle Ski And Snowboarding World Championships 2023
The 2023 FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboarding World Championships are held in Bakuriani, Georgia from 19 February to 4 March 2023. This marks the first ever snow sports World Championships to be contested in Georgia. A total of 30 medal events are on the program, with 16 being contested in the freestyle and freeski disciplines and 14 in snowboarding. Host selection In April 2017, the Georgian Ski Federation officially submitted a bid to host the event. In May 2018 at the annual FIS congress in Greece, Bakuriani was selected unanimously as the official host city for the event. Bakuriani was the only candidate to host the event. Bakuriani
Bakuriani ( ka, ბაკურიანი) is a daba and a ski resort in the Borjomi district of Georgia. It is located on the northern slope of the Trialeti Range, at an elevation of 1,700 meters (5,576 feet) above sea level. Geography The region around Bakuriani is covered by coniferous forests (mainly made up of spruce). The resort lies from Borjomi and is located within the so-called Bakuriani Depression/caldera. The resort is connected with Borjomi by an electrified narrow-gauge railway. The present-day area of the town was built up by lava flows from the nearby Mukhera volcano. Winter sports Ski resort The ski area of the resort is split into two separate parts: Didveli and Kokhta/Kokhta-Mitarbi. Sandra Catrin Näslund (born 6 July 1996) is a Swedish freestyle skier, specializing in ski cross and alpine skiing. She is the 2022 ski cross Olympic champion, the 2017, 2021 and 2023 ski cross World Champion, winner of the 2018, 2020, 2022, and 2023 ski cross World Cups, and the overall winner of the 2018 FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup. Career Näslund made her Freestyle World Cup debut in March 2012. As of the 2021–22 season, she has won the Ski cross World Cup three times and has won a total of 28 individual World Cup races.
