Imst
Imst (; Southern Bavarian: ''Imscht'') is a town in the Austrian federal state of Tyrol. It lies on the River Inn in western Tyrol, some west of Innsbruck and at an altitude of above sea level. With a current population (2013) of 9,552, Imst is the administrative centre of Imst District. History Licensed since 1282 to hold a regular market. Until 1918, the town (named earlier also ''JMST'') was part of the Austrian monarchy (Austria side after the compromise of 1867), head of the district of the same name, one of the 21 ''Bezirkshauptmannschaften'' in the Tyrol province. Imst received full town rights in 1898. Schemenlaufen Every four years Imst hosts their Fasnacht, or carnival before Lent. This carnival is listed by UNESCO as one of their Lists of Intangible Cultural Heritage. Paul Hildgartner
Paul Hildgartner (born 8 June 1952 in Chienes) is an Italian luger who competed from the early 1970s to the late 1980s. Competing in five Winter Olympics, he earned two gold medals (Men's doubles: 1972, Men's singles: 1984) and one silver medal (Men's singles: 1980) for his efforts. At the 1984 Winter Olympics, Hildgartner carried the Italian flag during the opening ceremonies. Biography Hildgartner also won five medals at the FIL World Luge Championships with two golds (Men's singles: 1978, Men's doubles: 1971) and three bronzes (Men's singles: 1979, 1983; Men's doubles: 1973). FIL European Luge Championships
The FIL European Luge Championships, part of the International Luge Federation (FIL) have taken place since 1914. From 1914 to 1934, these championships were part of the Internationaler Schlittensportsverband (ISSV - International Sled Sport Federation in ). From 1935 to 1956, the championships were held under the auspices of the Fédération Internationale de Bobsleigh et de Tobogganing (FIBT - International Bobsleigh and Tobagganing Federation in ). Since 1962, the event has been under the auspices of the FIL and has been held in even-numbered years since 1980. Since 2012, it is held annually. Tadeusz Radwan (June 27, 1945 – October 25, 2003) was a Polish luger who competed in the late 1960s and early 1970s. He was born in Koziniec. He won the bronze medal in the men's doubles event at the 1971 FIL European Luge Championships in Imst, Austria. Radwan also finished 22nd in the men's singles event at the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble. Ewald Walch (born 18 August 1940 in Innsbruck) was an Austrian luger who competed from the mid-1950s to the early 1970s. Competing in two Winter Olympics, he won the silver medal in the men's doubles event at the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble. Walch also won seven medals in the men's doubles event at the FIL World Luge Championships with three golds (1960, 1969, 1970), two silvers (1967, 1971), and two bronzes (1957, 1963). Walter Plaikner
Walter Plaikner (born 24 October 1951 in Kiens, South Tyrol) is an Italian former luger and coach of Austrian descent who competed in the late 1960s and early 1970s. He was a doubles specialist, and competed alongside Paul Hildgartner. They won the gold medal in the men's doubles event (shared with the East German pairing of Horst Hörnlein and Reinhard Bredow) at the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo. Plaikner also competed at the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, where he finished 11th in the doubles after suffering from a severe bout of flu. He retired from competition after the Games. Plaikner won two medals in the men's doubles events at the FIL World Luge Championships with a gold in 1971 and a bronze in 1973.
