	FIL European Luge Championships 1939 The FIL European Luge Championships 1939 took place in Reichenberg, Czechoslovakia (then under control of Nazi Germany, now Liberec, Czech Republic) for the second time under the auspices of the Fédération Internationale de Bobsleigh et de Tobogganing (FIBT - International Bobsleigh and Tobogganing Federation in ) under their "Section de Luge", a trend that would continue until the International Luge Federation (FIL) was formed in 1957. Reichenberg hosted the first European championships in 1914. picture info	Friedel Tietze Friedel Tietze (1908–1953) was a German luger who competed in the late 1930s. She won two gold medals in the women's singles event at the European luge championships ( 1938, 1939). After World War II, Tietze moved from the Karkonosze mountains to East Germany. There she married and became known as Friedel Kienzel-Tietze. She competed in the East German national championships up to her death year in 1953.
