FIBT World Championships 1999
The FIBT World Championships 1999 took place in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy (Bobsleigh) and Altenberg, Germany ( Skeleton). Cortina hosted the championships for the ninth time, previously doing so in 1937 (Two-man), 1939 (Four-man), 1950, 1954, 1960, 1966, 1981, and 1989 (Bobsleigh). Altenberg hosted the championship event for the third time, doing so previously in 1991 (Bobsleigh) and 1994 (Skeleton). Two man bobsleigh Ranzi replaced the injured Costa after the first heat of this event. Four man bobsleigh The French earned its first ever gold medal at the championships. Cortina D'Ampezzo
Cortina d'Ampezzo (; lld, Anpezo, ; historical de-AT, Hayden) is a town and ''comune'' in the heart of the southern (Dolomitic) Alps in the Province of Belluno, in the Veneto region of Northern Italy. The FIBT World Championships 1994 took place in Altenberg, Germany for the second time, having hosted the event previously in 1991 (Bobsleigh). Beat Hefti (born 3 February 1978) is a Swiss bobsledder who has competed since the late 1990s. Competing in four Winter Olympics, he has won a total of four Olympic medals. A gold medal in Sochi ( two-man, 2014), two bronze medals in Torino ( two-man and four-man, 2006) and another bronze medal in Salt Lake City ( two-man, 2002). Emmanuel Hostache (sometimes shown as Emanuel Hostache, 18 July 1975 in La Mure, Is̬re Р30 May 2007) was a French bobsledder who competed from 1991 to 2000. Competing in two Winter Olympics, he won a bronze medal in the four-man event (tied with Great Britain) at Nagano in 1998. Hostache was born at La Mure, in south-eastern France. At the 1999 FIBT World Championships in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Hostache won a gold in the four-man event and a bronze in the two-man event. Prior to being a bobsledder, Hostache also competed as a track and field athlete in the shot put and discus throw events. Markus Zimmermann (born 4 September 1964 in Berchtesgaden) is a German former bobsledder who competed from 1984 to 2004. Christoph Langen
Christoph Langen (born 27 March 1962, in Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia) is a German bobsledder who competed for the West German and German national team from 1985 to 2005 (as a pilot from 1991). Competing in four Winter Olympics, he won four medals with two golds (Two-man: 2002 Winter Olympics, 2002, Four-man: 1998 Winter Olympics, 1998) and two bronzes (Two-man: 1992 Winter Olympics, 1992, 1998). Langen was slowed by injuries to his Achilles tendon, which required two surgery, surgeries. He attempted to compete for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, but his injuries proved too much.
