The FIBT World Championships 1965 took place in St. Moritz, Switzerland for the record tenth time. The Swiss city had hosted the event previously in 1931 (Four-man), 1935 (Four-man), 1937 (Four-man), 1938 (Two-man), 1939 (Two-man), 1947, 1955, 1957, and 1959. Michael Young (bobsleigh)
Michael Young (born August 15, 1944) is a Canadian former bobsledder who competed in the 1960s. He won two medals at the 1965 FIBT World Championships in St. Moritz with a gold in the four-man event and a bronze in the two-man event. In 1966, he was severely injured during a four-man competition at the bobsleigh track in Lake Placid, New York when his sled hit the superstructure of the track at Turns 13 and 14, known as the "Zig-Zag Curves", damaging his face. Young was rushed to the hospital in Lake Placid, then flown to a hospital in Montreal to undergo extensive plastic surgery. This crash killed his compatriot Sergio Zardini and also featured future FIBT president Robert H. Storey. Young got involved with bobsleigh, after being introduced to the sport by his cousin Vic Emery while studying at the University of Western Ontario. FIBT World Championships
The IBSF World Championships (known as the FIBT World Championships until 2015), part of the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation, have taken place on an annual basis since 1930. Starting with 2002, championships of non-Winter Olympic years have not been held. A two-man event was included in 1931 with a combined championship occurring in 1947. Men's skeleton was introduced as a championship of its own in 1982 while women's bobsleigh and skeleton events were introduced in 2000. Both the women's bobsleigh and skeleton events were merged with the men's bobsleigh events at the 2004 championships. Joe Wilson (bobsleigh)
Joseph Peter "Joe Pete" Wilson (May 22, 1935 – September 13, 2019) was an American Olympic cross-country skier, who skied for the U.S. in cross-country at the 1960 Winter Olympics and later became a well-known skiing administrator in the United States. Wilson also in collaboration authored several books on cross-country skiing, all co-written by William J. Lederer. Wilson set up the cross-country ski area at the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, Vermont – the lodge established by the Trapp family of ''The Sound of Music'' fame. In 1973, Wilson organized a meeting of 25 ski areas and established the National Ski Touring Operators' Association. Wilson was named as its first President from 1973-1977. Frederick Joseph Fortune, Jr. (April 1, 1921 – April 20, 1994) is an American bobsledder who competed from the late 1940s to the mid-1960s. Italo De Lorenzo is an Italian bobsledder who competed in the mid-1960s. He won a silver medal in the four-man event at the 1965 FIBT World Championships in St. Moritz. De Lorenzo was a member of Italy's national bobsleigh team from 1959 to 1967, racing to gold in the 1964 two-man European Championships, and winning silver in the four-man World Championships in 1965. He was a bobsleigh commentator for Dutch television and radio from 1968 to 1982, and in 1978 he helped establish the Dutch bobsleigh and skeleton federation (Bob en Slee Bond Nederland / BSBN).
