The FIBA Basketball World Cup Top Scorer, although not an official award given by FIBA, represents the player who led FIBA Basketball World Cup in points scored per game (regardless of number of games played in tournament). The tournament's leader in total points scored is also noted. History Álvaro Salvadores, of Spain, was the leading scorer by points per game, of the first FIBA World Cup (then called the FIBA World Championship), the 1950 FIBA World Championship, which was held in Argentina. Chile's Rufino Bernedo, led that same tournament in total points scored, with 86. At the 1954 event, it was Uruguay's Oscar Moglia, that led in scoring, with an average of 18.7 points per game. The International Basketball Federation (FIBA ; French: ) is an association of national organizations which governs the sport of basketball worldwide. 1963 FIBA World Championship
The 1963 FIBA World Championship was the 4th FIBA World Championship, the international basketball world championship for men's teams. The competition was hosted by Brazil. The Philippines was originally supposed to host the tournament but FIBA revoked hosting rights after the country refused to grant visas to players from communist countries. Brazil being the defending Champion and a previous host, fairly managed to re-host the Championship from 12 to 25 May 1963 and won the 1st back to back title with just six (6) games by seeding the well-rested host team in the final round only. Wayne Brabender
Wayne Donald Brabender Cole (born October 16, 1945) is an American-born Spanish retired professional basketball player and coach. He acquired Spanish citizenship in 1968, relinquishing his U.S. citizenship to qualify for the Spanish national team. At a height of 6'4" (1.93 m), he could play at either the shooting guard or small forward positions. He was named one of FIBA's 50 Greatest Players in 1991. On February 3, 2008, Brabender was chosen as one of the 50 most influential personalities to European professional club basketball, over the previous half-century, by the EuroLeague Basketball Experts Committee. Arturo Guerrero
Arturo Guerrero Moreno (born 30 August 1948) is a Mexican former basketball player and coach. With Mexico's senior national team, he played at two Summer Olympic Games (1968 and 1976). Due to his shooting ability, he was nicknamed "Mano Santa" ("Holy Hand"). Along with Carlos Quintanar and Manolo Raga, he is generally considered to be one of the two best Mexican basketball players of all time. Club playing career Guerrero played club basketball in Mexico, Italy, with the Brazilian club E.C. Sírio, in Puerto Rico, and in Cuba. With E.C. Bohdan Stanisław Likszo (alternate spelling: Bogdan) (1 January 1940 in Vilnius (Wilno), Soviet occupated Poland – 11 December 1993 in Kraków) was a Polish professional basketball player.
