FC Torpedo Minsk ( be, ПФК Тарпеда Мінск, ''PFK Tarpeda Minsk''; russian: link=no, ПФК Торпедо Минск) is a Belarusian football club, playing in Minsk. The team plays their home games at the Torpedo Stadium in Minsk, which holds 4,800 people. They currently play in Belarusian Second League. History During Soviet years, Torpedo was playing in the Belarusian SSR top league and won championships in 1947, 1962, 1966, 1967 and 1969. The team was playing in the Belarusian Premier League since 1992. Their most successful years were in the early 2000s, when the team finished in 4th position twice in a row (2002, 2003) and reached the final of the Belarusian Cup (2000). In early 2005, Torpedo-SKA lost financial support from their sponsor and, after losing almost all their main squad and not having funds to pay entrance fee for next season's Premiere League, had to relegate to the Second League. 2018 Belarusian Premier League
The 2018 Belarusian Premier League was the 28th season of top-tier football in Belarus. BATE Borisov were the defending champions, having won their 12th consecutive league title and 14th overall last year, and successfully defended their crown. Teams The bottom two teams from the 2017 season ( Slavia Mozyr and Naftan Novopolotsk) were relegated to the 2018 Belarusian First League. They were replaced by Luch Minsk and Smolevichi, champions and runners-up of the 2017 Belarusian First League respectively. Before the start of the season, Krumkachy Minsk were excluded from the league, after repeatedly missing deadlines for providing necessary licensing documents and pay off the salary debts to the players. The 2017 Belarusian First League was the 27th season of 2nd level football in Belarus. It started in April and finished in November 2017. Team changes from 2016 season Two best teams of 2016 Belarusian First League (Gomel and Dnepr Mogilev) were promoted to Belarusian Premier League. They were replaced by two lowest placed teams of 2016 Belarusian Premier League table ( Belshina Bobruisk and Granit Mikashevichi). 2016 Belarusian First League was the 26th season of 2nd level football in Belarus. It started in April and finished in November 2016. Team changes from 2015 season Three best teams of 2015 Belarusian First League (Gorodeya, Isloch Minsk Raion and Krumkachy Minsk) were promoted to Belarusian Premier League. The Championship of the Belarusian SSR in football – First League ( be, Першая ліга чэмпіянату БССР па футболе, Pershaja Liha chempijanatu BSSR pa futbole) was a top competition of association football in the Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic in 1922-91. The first unofficial republican competition took place in 1922. History The club was founded in 2011 by a group of football fans. The club was named after the Belarusian word for ravens. After competing in the Belarusian amateur leagues for a few seasons, they joined the Belarusian Second League, the third division of Belarusian football, in 2014. The Belarusian First League is the second tier of professional football in Belarus. It was created in 1992, following the Belarusian independence. History and format The typical format of the league involves 16 clubs playing a double round-robin tournament over 30 matchdays (with the exception of shortened 1992 and 1995 seasons, which were a single round-robin tournaments).
