Tartu JK Merkuur was an Estonian football club based in Tartu. Merkuur was one of the founding members of the Meistriliiga, the top-tier of Estonian football. 2006, the last year of its existence, the club was known as JK Maag for sponsorship reasons. After finishing 5th in the Meistriliiga, the club merged with city rivals Tammeka under the name Tartu JK Maag Tammeka. Tamme Staadion
Tamme Stadium ( et, Tamme staadion) is a multi-purpose stadium in Tartu, Estonia, located in the district of Tammelinn. First opened in 1932 and reaching its current look in 2011, the stadium is home to Tartu JK Tammeka, Tartu Tammeka and holds 1,638 people. History The original sports park was designed in 1928 by the architect Arnold Matteus. The work was completed in 1932 and in 1936, a grandstand was added. Since then the stadium has been used for games in the Meistriliiga, Estonian Football League. There have been numerous international athletic competitions held in the stadium, and also Estonian Song Festivals. Tamme Stadium was the home ground for Tartu Olümpia, who became the Estonian champions in 1940, after beating JK Tallinna Kalev, Tallinna Kalev 3–1 in the final round of the 1939–40 Estonian Football Championship season. Tartu JK Tammeka, commonly known as Tartu Tammeka or simply Tammeka, is a football club, based in Tartu, Estonia, that competes in the Meistriliiga, the top flight of Estonian football. Founded in 1989, the club has played in the Meistriliiga since the 2005 season and have never been relegated from the Estonian top division. The club's home ground is Tartu Tamme Stadium. History Early years and road to the Meistriliiga Tammeka was founded on 13 June 1989 as a youth academy by Hillar Otto, Avo Jakovits and Heino Ligi. In 2000, the club joined the Estonian football league system and began competing in the Southern division of the III liiga. Tammeka's debut season was a success as the team finished first with 46 points out of the possible 60. Tammeka was promoted to the II liiga, and in 2001, to the Esiliiga. Meistriliiga Clubs
Meistriliiga (, known as the A. Le Coq Premium Liiga for sponsorship reasons) is the highest division of the Estonian Football Association annual football championship. The league was founded in 1992, and was initially semi-professional with amateur clubs allowed to compete. With the help of solidarity mechanisms, the league is fully professional since the 2020 season. As in most countries with low temperatures in winter time, the season starts in March and ends in November. Meistriliiga consists of ten clubs, all teams play each other four times. After each season the bottom team is relegated and the second last team plays a two-legged play-off for a place in the Meistriliiga. In February 2013, A. Le Coq, an Estonian brewery company, signed a five-year cooperation agreement with the Estonian Football Association, which included Meistriliiga naming rights. 2006 Meistriliiga was the 16th season of the Meistriliiga, Estonia's premier football league. FC Levadia Tallinn, Levadia won their fourth title. Season overview FC Levadia won the 2006 Meistriliiga championship and entered the 2007/08 UEFA Champions League 1st Qualifying Round. Narva Trans finished in their best ever silver-medal position, while FC Flora also gained a place compared to last season on 2005 champions FC TVMK's disappointing year. The latter will enter the Intertoto Cup and the other two above mentioned teams enter the UEFA Cup qualifying rounds in the summer of 2007. The bottom of the table provided some intrigue as well. 2005 Meistriliiga was the 15th season of the Meistriliiga, Estonia's premier football league. TVMK won their first title. Season overview FC TVMK's first title-winning Meistriliiga campaign came in some style with strikers Tarmo Neemelo and Ingemar Teever scoring most of the goals and veteran midfielder Andrei Borissov leading the team from midfield. Narva Trans finished in bronze-medal position after years of being fourth in the final table, while FC Flora have been busy rebuilding their squad and therefore not too upset by a disappointing fourth position finish. FC Kuressaare went out of the league via play-offs and Dünamo's defensive displays were awful and the team never seemed to have any kind of chance in staying up. 2004 Meistriliiga was the 14th season of the Meistriliiga, Estonia's premier football league. Levadia won their third title. Season overview Levadia Tallinn won their third title with a six-point advantage over the runners-up TVMK Tallinn. Tammeka Tartu and Tervis Pärnu won promotion to the Meistriliiga as the Esiliiga champions and third placed team respectively, the runners-up Levadia Tallinn II were ineligible for promotion. Expansion of the league to ten teams from eight, for the upcoming season, also ensured that even the last placed Lootus Alutaguse had a chance to stay in the top flight, but were defeated by Esiliiga's fourth team Dünamo Tallinn, winning the away leg 2-1, but then losing at home 0-4 a week later. Tartu is the second largest city in Estonia after the Northern European country's political and financial capital, Tallinn. Tartu has a population of 91,407 (as of 2021). The 1992 Meistriliiga was the inaugural season of the Meistriliiga, the top division of the Estonian football. It was the first domestic competition since the Baltic nation had gained independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. Fourteen teams competed in this edition, played in the spring to make the transition to autumn to spring season in the same year. Norma Tallinn won the title.
