FC Gandzasar Kapan
Football Club Gandzasar Kapan ( hy, Ֆուտբոլային Ակումբ Գանձասար Կապան), commonly known as Gandzasar, is an Armenian football club based in the town of Kapan, Syunik Province. Translated from the Armenian, "Gandz-a-sar" simply means "Treasure Mountain". The club headquarters are located on Shinararner street 1, Kapan. The Gandzasar Kapan Training Centre is located at the eastern outskirts of the town of Kapan. The club is under the ownership of Zangezur Copper and Molybdenum Combine Closed Joint-Stock Company since 25 February 2015. History The club was founded in 2004 and made their debut in the Armenian football league system in the 2004 Armenian First League competition. They spent 2 years playing in the Armenian First League before getting promoted to the Armenian Premier League for the 2006 season. Gandzasar Stadium
Gandzasar Stadium ( hy, Գանձասար մարզադաշտ) is a multi-purpose stadium in Kapan, the capital of Syunik Province, Armenia. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home ground of Gandzasar. With a capacity of 3,500, Gandzasar Stadium is located at the centre of the town of Kapan, on the left bank of Voghji River, between Aram Manukian and Hovhannes Tumanyan streets. Kapan town hall is located at the eastern edge of the stadium Overview The stadium was opened during the Soviet period in 1963 as Lernagorts Stadium, being home to Lernagorts Kapan. It remained under the ownership of the town council until 2004, when it was privatized and sold to the Gandzasar Sprts Centre LLC owned by Gagik Ohanjanyan. 2005 Armenian First League
The 2005 Armenian First League season started on 19 April 2005. The last matches were played on 8 October 2005. Pyunik-2 became the league champions, but because they are a reserve team they were unable to promote to the Armenian Premier League. As a result, the second placed team Ararat Yerevan was given promotion. The third placed team Gandzasar played in the promotion/relegation play-off, which they lost. 2009 Armenian Premier League
The 2009 Armenian Premier League season was the eighteenth since its establishment. The season began on 21 March 2009 and ended on 7 November 2009. FC Pyunik were the defending champions. There were no teams promoted from the previous season of the First League. Therefore, Kilikia FC play another season in the top league. Only 8 teams were allowed to play in the 2009 Armenian Premier League. The league was played in four stages. Teams played each other four times, twice at home and twice away. FC Pyunik gained maximum points after round 28 and were crowned champions; winning their ninth consecutive title, twelfth overall. Ararat Yerevan were relegated to Armenian First League. 2008 Armenian Cup
The 2008 Armenian Cup was the 17th edition of the Armenian Cup, a football competition. In 2008, the tournament had 14 participants, out of which 6 were reserve teams. Summary Banants and Ararat got a pass on the 1st round because these two clubs reached the final the previous year. The first round passed without any surprises, as the reserve teams were expected to be knocked out. The quarter finals, however, turned out to be very interesting. Two of the matches had to be decided on penalties. Gandzasar put up quite a fight against defending Armenian Premier League champions Pyunik, and even managed to outplay the champions in various aspects of the game. Shirak also demonstrated a fighting spirit and managed to defeat defending cup holders Banants away, after losing the first leg at home. 2008 Armenian Premier League
The 2008 Armenian Premier League season (known as ''STAR National Football League'' due to sponsorship reasons) was the seventeenth since its establishment. It started on 6 April 2008, while the last matches were played on 15 November 2008. FC Pyunik were the defending champions. The Yerevan side won their seventh consecutive league title the previous season, their tenth overall. FC Dinamo Yerevan were supposed to be the team to get promoted, but they withdrew from the Premier League, and were disbanded. On 30 April 2008, Football Federation of Armenia signed a contract with STAR retailing company by which STAR would become the sponsor of the 17th Armenian Premier League season, and henceforth the 2008 season would be called STAR National Football League.
