FCV Farul Constanța
FCV Farul Constanța (), commonly known as Farul Constanța or simply as Farul, is a Romanian professional football club based in the city of Constanța, Constanța County, which currently plays in the Liga I. ''Farul'' is a Romanian word which translates as "the Lighthouse", alluding the fact that Constanța is the largest port on the Black Sea coast. Established in 1920 as ''SPM Constanța'', the team has spent over 40 seasons in the first league, the highest position it achieved being fourth place on three occasions, last time at the end of the 1973–74 season. It also played one Cupa României final in 2005, which it lost 0–1 to Dinamo București. Farul has produced several talented players, the most notable of them being Gheorghe Hagi, the joint top goalscorer of the Romania national team; he currently holds shares in the company and is also in charge of the senior team. Fotbal Club Rapid 1923, commonly known as Rapid București () or simply as Rapid, is a Romanian professional football club based in Bucharest, which competes in the Liga I. It was founded in 1923 by employees of the Grivița workshops as ''Asociația Culturală și Sportivă CFR'' ("CFR Cultural and Sports Association"). Fotbal Club Politehnica Timișoara (), commonly known as Politehnica Timișoara or simply Poli Timișoara, was a Romanian football club from Timișoara, Timiș County, established in 1921 and dissolved in 2012. The Liga 2, most often spelled as Liga II, is the second level of the Romanian football league system. The league changed its name from Divizia B just before the start of the 2006–07 Liga II, 2006–07. It is currently Sponsor (commercial), sponsored by Casa Pariurilor, a betting company with the official name Liga 2 Casa Pariurilor. Format Divisions Since its inception in 1934, Liga II had between 2 and 9 parallel divisions, with clubs divided based on geographic regions. Generally, Seria I included eastern teams while Seria II included western sides, although clubs near the center of the country are allowed to choose in which series they will compete. Stadionul Farul
Stadionul Farul is a multi-purpose stadium in Constanța, Romania. It was used mostly for football matches and until 2022 was the home ground of Farul Constanța. The stadium had also functions as an athletics arena, with track and field athletics facilities. The stadium was closed in 2022 and is proposed for demolition, also a new stadium is in plan to be built, on the same site. In 1970, Stadionul Farul was the first stadium in Romania to host a floodlit football match. The stadium has played host to the Romania national football team, in the World Cup 2006 Qualification, UEFA Euro 2008 qualifying and 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification. The stadium is currently in bad condition. Many of the seats in the stands are missing or are damaged. In general, the stadium is in need of renovation. Ovidiu
Ovidiu (, historical name: ''Canara'', tr, Kanara) is a town situated a few kilometres north of Constanța in Constanța County, Northern Dobruja, Romania. Ovidiu is quite small, with a population of around 12,000, and many wealthy inhabitants of Constanța retire there. It officially became a town in 1989, as a result of the Romanian rural systematization program. In 1930, the town was renamed ''Ovidiu'' after the Roman poet Ovid ( lat, Ovidius). He was supposedly buried on a nearby small island (also called ''Ovidiu'') in the Siutghiol Lake. Administration The town of Ovidiu administers the villages of Poiana (historical names: ''Cocoșul'' - until 1964, tr, Horozlar - until 1926) and Culmea.
