FCR Duisburg
FCR 2001 Duisburg (full name: ''Fußballclub Rumeln 2001 Duisburg'') was a German women's football club from Duisburg. The first team played in the Bundesliga. They originate from a women's team formed in 1977 under the umbrella of FC Rumeln-Kaldenhausen and have existed as an independent club since 8 June 2001. The colors of the 400-member-strong club are green and white. The first team of FCR 2001 Duisburg, who carry the nickname of "Die Löwinnen" (lionesses), have played in the Bundesliga since gaining promotion in 1993. Winning the UEFA Women's Cup in 2009 and with past success in the German championship (2000) and the cup (twice), FCR Duisburg was one of the top teams in German women's football. Fatmire "Lira" Alushi (; born 1 April 1988) is a German former professional footballer who played as an attacking midfielder. She placed third in 2010 FIFA Ballon d'Or competition, an annual award given to the world's best player. Club career Alushi began her career at DJK/VfL Giesenkirchen. From 1997 to 2004, she played for FSC Mönchengladbach, before moving to the Bundesliga side and joining FCR 2001 Duisburg. Linda Bresonik (born 7 December 1983) is a German retired footballer. She played as a defensive midfielder or wing back. She mostly played for Duisburg, and many times for Germany. Career Club Bresonik began her career at the age of five at TuS 84/10 Essen, before moving to Grün-Weiß Schönebeck in 1995. She joined FCR 2001 Duisburg in 2000 and made her Bundesliga debut for the club. In the 2004–05 season, Duisburg finished runner-up in the league. After a falling out with the club, Bresonik transferred to Bundesliga side SC 07 Bad Neuenahr in 2005, but she only appeared in five matches there. Kerstin Stegemann (born 29 September 1977) is a German former footballer who played as a defender or midfielder. Career Born in Rheine-Mesum, she made her football debut at age 15 in 1993, playing for FFC Heike Rheine in the Frauen-Bundesliga. Within two years, she made her first appearance for the Germany national team, playing in a 13 April 1995 match against Poland.
