Football Club Broxbourne Borough was a football club based in Broxbourne, Hertfordshire, England. They played at Goffs Lane in Cheshunt. History Somersett Football Club, a team for former pupils of Chase Boys School in nearby Enfield, was established in 1959.History Broxbourne Borough F.C. They started playing in the Edmonton Youth Saturday League, but failed to win a match in their first two seasons. In 1961 they switched to the Enfield Alliance League. Although they finished bottom of the league in their first season, they later began to progress up the league, winning successive promotions to reach the Premier Division. In 1982 the club absorbed Cheshunt Rangers, and in 1989 they switched to the McMullen League. Cheshunt ( ) is a town in Hertfordshire, England, north of London on the River Lea and Lee Navigation. It contains a section of the Lee Valley Park, including much of the River Lee Country Park. To the north lies Broxbourne and Wormley, Hertfordshire, Wormley, Waltham Abbey to the east, Waltham Cross and Enfield, London, Enfield to the south, and Cuffley to the west. Historically an ancient parish in the List of hundreds of England and Wales#Hertfordshire, Hertford Hundred (county division), hundred of Hertfordshire, it was granted Urban district (Great Britain and Ireland), urban district status in 1894. Waltham Cross, which became a separate ecclesiastical parish in 1885, historically formed the southern part of Cheshunt, and remained part of the Cheshunt Urban District until its abolition in 1974. The Football Association Challenge Vase, usually referred to as the FA Vase, is an annual football competition for teams playing in Steps 5 and 6 of the English National League System (or equivalently, tier 9 or 10 of the overall English football league system). For the 2017–18 season 619 entrants were accepted, with two qualifying rounds preceding the six proper rounds, semi-finals (played over two legs) and final to be played at Wembley Stadium. The 2022 winners were Newport Pagnell Town, who beat Littlehampton Town 3–0 at Wembley Stadium. History Until 1974, football players were either professionals or amateurs. The Football Association Challenge Cup, more commonly known as the FA Cup, is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic English football. First played during the 1871–72 season, it is the oldest national football competition in the world. It is organised by and named after The Football Association (The FA). Since 2015, it has been known as The Emirates FA Cup after its headline sponsor. A concurrent women's tournament is also held, the Women's FA Cup. The competition is open to all eligible clubs down to Level 9 of the English football league system with Level 10 clubs acting as stand-ins in the event of non-entries from above.
