F.C. Luanda
Futebol Clube de Luanda is one of the most traditional football clubs in Luanda. Founded on January 30, 1933, as an affiliate to Portugal's F.C. Porto, the club has been inactive since independence with only few minor underage training activities taking place. The club was the legitimate owner of the Estádio da Cidadela, having inaugurated it on June 10, 1972, before it was ''nationalized'' shortly after independence. The club has been long without proper management and has been run by secretary general Alberto de Almeida and board member Roberto Brooks. Former prominent athletes include former president José Eduardo dos Santos and Angola's football giant Ndunguidi Daniel. Estádio Da Cidadela
Estádio da Cidadela is a stadium in Luanda, Angola. It is used mostly for association football, football matches, while sometimes hosting cultural events, including musical concerts. It is part of the Complexo Desportivo da Cidadela, along with the Pavilhão da Cidadela, Pavilhão Anexo and Pavilhão Anexo II. While originally holding 40,000 people, in 2006, the stadium's upper ring has been declared unsafe by the Confederation of African Football, CAF and banned for public use. Until Angola's independence in November 1975, the stadium has been owned by F.C. Luanda, Futebol Clube de Luanda, one of the most traditional and historical clubs in Luanda. Shortly after, it has been nationalised for the purpose of general government use. Luanda
Luanda () is the capital and largest city in Angola. It is Angola's primary port, and its major industrial, cultural and urban centre. Located on Angola's northern Atlantic coast, Luanda is Angola's administrative centre, its chief seaport, and also the capital of the Luanda Province. Luanda and its metropolitan area is the most populous Portuguese-speaking capital city in the world and the most populous Lusophone city outside Brazil, with over 8.3 million inhabitants in 2020 (a third of Angola's population). Girabola
Girabola, or ''Campeonato Nacional de Futebol em Séniores Masculinos'', is the top division of Angolan football. It is organized by the Angolan Football Federation. The league winner and runner-up qualify for the CAF Champions League. Girabola ZAP In January 2016, Angolan subscription TV satellite and cable provider ZAP, the Angolan Football Federation and the Girabola clubs, signed a three-year deal in which ZAP will have broadcast rights over all Girabola matches. As part of the deal, the Angolan state-owned TV station TPA will be allowed to broadcast one game per week on its free-view platform. José Eduardo Dos Santos
José Eduardo dos Santos (; 28 August 1942 – 8 July 2022) was the president of Angola from 1979 to 2017. As president, dos Santos was also the commander-in-chief of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) and president of the People's Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), the party that has ruled Angola since it won independence in 1975. He was the second-longest-serving president in Africa, surpassed only by Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea. Dos Santos joined the MPLA, then an anti-colonial movement, while still in school, and earned degrees in petroleum engineering and radar communications while studying in the Soviet Union. Following the Angolan War of Independence, Angola was constituted in 1975 as a Marxist–Leninist one-party state led by the MPLA. Ndunguidi
Daniel Ndunguidi Gonçalves, better known as Daniel Ndunguidi or simply Ndunguidi, (born 1956) is a former Angolan football player. Ndunguidi, whose career peaked in the 1980s while playing for Primeiro de Agosto as a forward, is widely considered Angola's most prominent football player, following independence. His fame and talent is only matched by that of Petro Atlético's José Saturnino de Oliveira aka "Jesus". In 1979, an attempt by Sporting Clube de Portugal to sign him was barred for political reasons as was another attempt by Benfica de Portugal in 1990. On November 30th 1991, a farewell match was played between Primeiro de Agosto and Petro de Luanda, in honour of Ndunguidi and ''Jesus" Saturnino. Segundona aka Torneio de Apuramento ''(Qualification Tournament)'' or Gira Angola is the 2nd division of Angolan football (soccer). It is organized by the Angolan Football Federation and gives access to Angola's top tier football division Girabola. Unlike most league systems worldwide, Angola does not have a regular second-tier league system.
