Eyserheide
Eyserheide (English: ''Eys heathland'', Limburgish: ''Ezerhei'') is a hamlet in the southeastern Netherlands. It is located close to the village of Eys in the municipality of Gulpen-Wittem, Limburg, around 15 km east of Maastricht. The name refers to a former heathland in the area. The village has a population of 90 people. Together with the neighboring hamlets of Elkenrade and Mingersberg, it is located on the plateau of Ubachsberg. The village is known for the Eyserbosweg, a steep hill to the south of the village which is part of the Amstel Gold Race. To the west of the village is the forest Eyserbos. Gulpen-Wittem Flag
Gulpen-Wittem (; li, Gullepe-Wittem ) is a municipality in the southeastern Netherlands (in the province of Limburg) with inhabitants as of . Gulpen-Wittem came into being after the merger of the municipalities Gulpen and Wittem. This took place after a request of both municipalities. At the time of the merger, both municipalities had about 8000 inhabitants, although Wittem was bigger than Gulpen. The town hall was situated in Gulpen, and has kept its function as town hall in the new municipality. The former town hall of Wittem was situated in a manor house in Mechelen since 1986, which is now being used as a "nursing hostel". The municipality is rural, with many castles, half-timbered houses and old monumental farms. Yearly, Gulpen-Wittem attracts many tourists from the entire country because of its relatively sloping landscape, especially during the summer. Heath
A heath () is a shrubland habitat found mainly on free-draining infertile, acidic soils and characterised by open, low-growing woody vegetation. A rijksmonument (, ) is a national heritage site of the Netherlands, listed by the agency Rijksdienst voor het Cultureel Erfgoed (RCE) acting for the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. At the end of February 2015, the Netherlands had 61,822 listed national heritage sites, of which approximately 1,500 are listed as archaeological sites. Amstel Gold Race
The Amstel Gold Race is an annual one-day classic road cycling race held in the province of Limburg, Netherlands. It traditionally marks the turning point of the spring classics, with the climbers and stage racers replacing the cobbled classics riders as the favourites. Since 1989 the event has been included in season-long competitions at the highest level of UCI, as part of the UCI Road World Cup (1989–2004), the UCI ProTour (2005–2010), UCI World Ranking (2009–2010) and since 2011 of the UCI World Tour. It is the only one-day World Tour race staged in the Netherlands and is considered the most important Dutch road cycling event. Dutchman Jan Raas holds the winning record with five victories. Eyserbosweg
The Eyserbosweg is a road located in Eys in the south of Limburg, Netherlands. The road is used as a climb in cycling racing and most famously during the Amstel Gold Race, but is also climbed during the Ster Elektrotoer, Hel van het Mergelland, Olympia's Tour, and the Eneco Tour Amstel Gold Race The Eyserbosweg is located at 20 km before the finish of the Cauberg. The climb marks the start of the final and is used by race favourites as one of the hills to place their attacks. It’s part of the section of climbs: Kruisberg (Wahlwiller), Eyserbosweg, Fromberg and Keutenberg. After that the cyclists climb the Cauberg, Geulhemmerberg, and Bemelerberg until the finish.
