Evert Augustus Duyckinck
Evert Augustus Duyckinck (pronounced DIE-KINK) (November 23, 1816 – August 13, 1878) was an American publisher and biographer. He was associated with the literary side of the Young America movement in New York. Biography He was born on November 23, 1816, in New York City to Evert Duyckinck, a publisher. Evert the younger graduated from Columbia College, where he was a member of the Philolexian Society, in 1835. He then studied law with John Anthon, and was admitted to the bar in 1837. He spent the next year in Europe. Before he went abroad he wrote articles on the poet George Crabbe, the works of George Herbert, and Oliver Goldsmith, for the ''New York Review''. Evert Bancker (mayor)
Evert Bancker (January 24, 1665 in Albany, New York – July 1734 in Guilderland, New York) was an American trader and politician who was Mayor of Albany from 1695 to 1696 and from 1707 to 1709. Early life He was the only surviving son of Gerrit Bancker (1635–1691), a pioneer fur trader, and Lysbet "Elizabeth" Van Epps (1630–1691), a trader's daughter with ties to the Mohawk Valley. His younger sister, Anna Bancker (1670–1740), married Johannes de Peyster, the Mayor of New York City. His father died in 1691, and he was named co-executor of the estate. Upon the death of his mother in 1693, he inherited a substantial family estate that included holdings in Albany and New York. He was among a number of Albany natives who maintained dual residency - being admitted to the "Freedom" of New York City in 1697. Evert Willem Beth (7 July 1908 – 12 April 1964) was a Dutch philosopher and logician, whose work principally concerned the foundations of mathematics. He was a member of the Significs Group. Biography Beth was born in Almelo, a small town in the eastern Netherlands. His father had studied mathematics and physics at the University of Amsterdam, where he had been awarded a PhD. Evert Beth studied the same subjects at Utrecht University, but then also studied philosophy and psychology. His 1935 PhD was in philosophy. In 1946, he became professor of logic and the foundations of mathematics in Amsterdam. Evert Jan Boks (18 April 1838 – 14 June 1914) was a Dutch painter. Evert-Jan Boks was a pupil of Arie Lieman and Willem Riem Vis in Apeldoorn. He continued his studies at the Royal Academy in Antwerp, where he won a first prize in 1863. Later on, he also won the Prix de Rome. After study tours, mainly in France and Italy, he permanently settled in Antwerp, and married Elie Voet. Their house which they inhabited life-long in Antwerp, still exists in the rue Lamorinière. Many of his works went to the United States at a time when the first American tourists began to visit Europe in large numbers in tours organised by the steamship companies. Frans Evert Eloranta (10 October 1879 – 1936) was a Finnish politician and a Member of the Parliament for the Social Democratic Party in 1908–1918. During the Finnish Civil War, Eloranta served as the Minister of Agriculture of the Finnish Socialist Workers' Republic. In March 1918, he was elected the commander-in-chief of the Red Guards as a member of the triumvirate with Eino Rahja and Adolf Taimi. After the war, Eloranta fled to the Soviet Russia, where he allegedly died in 1936. Evert Andersen (1 February 1772 – 29 July 1809) was a Norwegian sea captain who fought in the Gunboat War against Great Britain and Sweden 1807–09. Early life Andersen was a farmer's son from Lista who left his father's farm to his younger brother and went to sea. He enlisted as a gunner with the fluyt ''Eensgezindheid'' of the Dutch East India Company and made a three-year voyage from Amsterdam to Batavia between 1784 and 1787. Back in Norway he settled in Kristiansand, probably in 1805, marrying Helene Hansdatter Netland in 1807 and fathering three daughters. Evert Endt is a French designer. Early life Evert Endt was born in Zaandam, the Netherlands, in 1933. He grew up in Switzerland and studied in Zurich at the Kunstgewerbeschule. Evert van Benthem (born 21 November 1958) is a Dutch former speed skater who won the rarely raced Elfstedentocht twice in a row, in 1985 and 1986. Early career Van Benthem, a farmer from Leeuwte, near Vollenhove in The Netherlands, became involved in marathon skating in the early 1980s. He started racing in the A-class in 1983, which involved longer races (100 km instead of 40 km), and finished third in the Dutch championship in 1985.
