Everesting
Everesting is an activity in which cyclists or runners ascend and descend a given hill multiple times, in order to have cumulatively climbed (the elevation of Mount Everest). The first event described as "Everesting" was by George Mallory, grandson of George Mallory, who disappeared on Everest in 1924. The younger Mallory ascended Mount Donna Buang in 1994, having ridden eight "laps" of the 1,069-metre hill. The format and rules were cemented by Andy van Bergen, inspired by the story of Mallory's effort. In the first official group effort, van Bergen organized 65 riders, 40 of whom finished the Everesting attempt. Everesting George Mallory's Everesting attempt in 1994 was written up into an article in 2012, which first prompted others to take on this challenge. Illi Cerys Gardner (; born 14 October 1999) is a British professional racing cyclist. 2021 On 14 August 2021 she set a new women's world Everesting record of 8 hours 33 minutes and 47 seconds, beating Emma Pooley's 2020 record by almost 20 minutes by riding up and down Bwlch y Groes 72 times. 2022 On 23 July 2022 she set a further women's world Everesting record of 8 hours 3 minutes and 29 seconds, improving on her previous record by over 30 minutes by riding up and down the Crowcombe climb 59 times. Lauren De Crescenzo
Lauren De Crescenzo (born September 3, 1990) is an American professional racing cyclist. She rode in the women's team time trial at the 2015 UCI Road World Championships. A decorated collegiate career included bronze medals in the 2018 USA Cycling Collegiate National Championship Road Race and Individual omnium, as well as gold in the 2019 Individual time trial. On May 31, 2020, she set the women's everesting world record, ascending Hogpen Gap in Blairsville, Georgia 24 times in nine hours and fifty-seven minutes. Kirkstone Pass
Kirkstone Pass is a mountain pass in the English Lake District, in the county of Cumbria. It is at an altitude of . It is the District's highest pass traversed by road, the A592 road between Ambleside in Rothay Valley and Patterdale in Ullswater Valley. The road gradient approaches 1 in 4. The picturesque view down into Patterdale has Brothers Water as its focal point. The Kirkstone Pass Inn stands close to the summit. Once a vital coaching inn, it now caters primarily for tourists.
