Eskorbuto
Eskorbuto was a Spanish punk rock band from Santurtzi, Greater Bilbao, Basque Autonomous Community, that formed in 1980. They have been one of the most influential bands for Spanish and Latin American punk rock. They are known for their strong attitude and crude lyrics. They were one of the first bands to perform punk with lyrics in Spanish. Eskorbuto is a modified word taken from ''escorbuto'' (scurvy in Spanish). Along with the band La Polla Records, Eskorbuto has been very influential in the Spanish rock and punk scene. By 2015, Pako Galán announced that the band come back to performing again. In May 2016, the new line-up is presented with Ali Kalaña (bass and lead vocals) and Naty Penadas (guitar and backing vocals) and Pako as the only continuous member. Iosu Expósito
Jesús María Expósito López ( Santurce, Vizcaya, 23 December 1960 – Baracaldo, 31 May 1992) better known by his nickname Iosu was a Spanish rock musician, known as the guitarist from the punk rock band Eskorbuto. Career Iosu Expósito was the guitarist and second singer of Eskorbuto since 1980 to early 1992. Iosu lived his entire life in the city of Santurce ( Basque Country). During his childhood enjoyed listening to The Kinks, The Rolling Stones, The Who and then The Clash and Sex Pistols, also he was a great fan of football soccer. Expósito was part of the rock band Zarama, as bass player between 1977 and 1979. In the late 1970s, Expósito worked in a factory at the Santurce harbor. He wrote about the experience in his song, "Cualquier Lugar" (Anywhere). In 1980 formed Eskorbuto with Juanma Suárez and Pako Galán. Basque Radical Rock, ( es, Rock radikal vasco, eu, Euskal Herriko rock erradikala) was a musical genre born in the Southern Basque Country at the beginning of the 1980s and, although there was no specific event, it is considered to have ended in the last years of the decade. Basque Radical Rock bands were particularly influenced by punk bands like Sex Pistols and The Clash. Juanma Suárez
Juan Manuel Suárez Fernández (11 July 1962 – 9 October 1992) also known by Juanma Suárez was a Spanish punk rock bassist and singer, founder and member of one of the most influential Spanish punk rock bands, Eskorbuto, since 1980 to 1992. With Iosu Expósito founded a previous band called Sección Mortuoria (Spanish for Mortuary Section), then Muñecas de Acero (Spanish for Steel Dolls). His friend, Roberto Moso (leader and singer of Zarama), gave them the nickname "Eskorbuto" (scurvy in Spanish) for their scrawny look. He is widely considered an icon of Spanish punk. R.I.P. was a hardcore punk group from Mondragón, Basque Autonomous Community (Spain), and were part of the Basque Radical Rock musical movement in the early 1980s. By 2014, three of the band's classic four members — lead singer Karlos "Mahoma" Agirreurreta, bassist "Portu" Mancebo and guitarist Jul Bolinaga — had died. History 1981–1983: The beginning In 1981, the Bolinaga brothers Jul and Txerra formed a band called Doble Cero, along with bassist and singer Eduardo Mancebo, a.k.a. "Portu". La Polla Records
La Polla Records was a punk rock band from the Basque Country, formed in 1979 in Salvatierra/Agurain, a small town in Álava, Spain. Its founders were Evaristo Páramos "Evaristo" on vocals, Maleguin on bass, Fernandito on drums and Txarly and Sumé on guitars. The name was somewhat controversial because in Spanish, "polla" is vulgarly slang for "cock, penis". The lyrics of the band harshly criticized fascism, militarism, capitalism, and catholicism. La Polla Records has been very influential in the Spanish-language punk scene. Cicatriz was a punk rock band from the Basque Autonomous Community (Spain) formed in 1983. The band had a big significance for the Basque Radical Rock (Rock Radical Vasco or RRV). The Clash were an English rock band formed in London in 1976 who were key players in the original wave of British punk rock. Billed as "The Only Band That Matters", they also contributed to the and new wave movements that emerged in the wake of punk and employed elements of a variety of genres including reggae, dub, funk, ska, and rockabilly.
