Ernesto Bertea
Ernesto Bertea (1836–1904) was an Italian painter, mainly of landscapes and Genre paintings, genre paintings. Biography He was born and lived in Turin. He studied with Ernesto Allason, then was influenced by the Swiss painter Edmond Castan and finally to the painter of the Barbizon School of Constant Troyon in Paris. He also worked in painting ceramics and watercolors. At the 1880 Esposizione Nazionale of Turin del 1880, he displayed: ''La Chiavica''; ''Rio Secco''; ''A Pasture in Flatlands''; ''In val d'Aosta''; and ''Bay of Pollenza''; as well as three watercolors: ''Pecarry in Pasture''; ''Mill''; and ''Prime foglie''. Genre Paintings
Genre painting (or petit genre), a form of genre art, depicts aspects of everyday life by portraying ordinary people engaged in common activities. One common definition of a genre scene is that it shows figures to whom no identity can be attached either individually or collectively, thus distinguishing it from history paintings (also called ''grand genre'') and portraits. A work would often be considered as a genre work even if it could be shown that the artist had used a known person—a member of his family, say—as a model. In this case it would depend on whether the work was likely to have been intended by the artist to be perceived as a portrait—sometimes a subjective question. The depictions can be realistic, imagined, or romanticized by the artist. Ernesto Allason (Turin, 1822 – March 1, 1868) was an Italian painter. Biography He was initially trained as a lawyer, but by 1843, he was studying art under the direction of the painter Carlo Piacenza. He specialized in landscapes. Barbizon School
The Barbizon school of painters were part of an art movement towards Realism in art, which arose in the context of the dominant Romantic Movement of the time. The Barbizon school was active roughly from 1830 through 1870. It takes its name from the village of Barbizon, France, on the edge of the Forest of Fontainebleau, where many of the artists gathered. Most of their works were landscape painting, but several of them also painted landscapes with farmworkers, and genre scenes of village life. Some of the most prominent features of this school are its tonal qualities, color, loose brushwork, and softness of form. Constant Troyon
Constant Troyon (August 28, 1810 – February 21, 1865) was a French painter of the Barbizon school. In the early part of his career he painted mostly landscapes. It was only comparatively late in life that Troyon found his ''métier'' as a painter of animals, and achieved international recognition. Early years He was born in Sèvres, near Paris, where his father was connected with the famous manufactory of porcelain. Troyon entered the ateliers very young as a decorator, and until he was twenty he labored assiduously at the minute details of porcelain ornamentation; and this kind of work he mastered so thoroughly that it was many years before he overcame its limitations.
