Erie (; ) is a city on the south shore of Lake Erie and the county seat of Erie County, Pennsylvania, United States. Erie is the fifth largest city in Pennsylvania and the largest city in Northwestern Pennsylvania with a population of 94,831 at the 2020 census. The estimated population in 2021 had decreased to 93,928. The Erie metropolitan area, equivalent to all of Erie County, consists of 266,096 residents. The Erie-Meadville combined statistical area had a population of 369,331 at the 2010 census. Erie is roughly equidistant from Buffalo and Cleveland, each being about 100 miles (160 kilometers) away. Erie National Wildlife Refuge
The Erie National Wildlife Refuge is an National Wildlife Refuge located in Crawford County, Pennsylvania. Named after the Erie tribe, it was established to provide waterfowl and other migratory birds with nesting, feeding, brooding, and resting habitat. The refuge consists of two separate land divisions. The Sugar Lake Division is closest to Guys Mills, Pennsylvania and is east of Meadville, Pennsylvania, Meadville. The Seneca Division, consisting of , is north of the Sugar Lake Division and borders French Creek (Allegheny River), French Creek near Cambridge Springs, Pennsylvania. Erie County is a county in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. It is the northernmost county in Pennsylvania. As of the 2020 census, the population was 270,876. Its county seat is Erie. The county was created in 1800 and later organized in 1803. Erie County comprises the Erie, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Erie Triangle is a roughly 300-square-mile (780-square-kilometre) tract of American land that was the subject of several competing colonial-era claims. It was eventually acquired by the U.S. federal government and sold to Pennsylvania so that the state would have access to a freshwater port on Lake Erie. The Erie Triangle land makes up a large portion of present-day Erie County, Pennsylvania. Erie MetroParks
Erie MetroParks was formed as the "Erie County Metropolitan Park District" in 1968 and adopted its current name in 1991. It consists of 14 individual park areas located throughout Erie County in the US state of Ohio covering approximately . It was organized under the provisions of the Ohio Revised Code, Section 1545, as a separate political division of Ohio. Erie MetroParks is overseen by a Board of Park Commissioners consisting of three members appointed to three-year terms by Judges of the Probate Court and Common Pleas Court of Erie County. Erie is a census-designated place (CDP) in Cass County, North Dakota, United States. The population was 50 at the 2010 census. Established in or after 1980 by the United States Census Bureau, the CDP is named for the village of Erie, which is within its boundary.
