Erie Township is one of the twelve townships of Ottawa County, Ohio, United States. The 2000 census found 1,328 people in the unincorporated portions of the township. Geography Located in the central part of the county along Lake Erie, it borders the following townships: * Put-in-Bay Township - northeast, across Lake Erie * Portage Township - southeast * Bay Township - south * Salem Township - southwest * Carroll Township - northwest A small part of the city of Port Clinton, the county seat of Ottawa County, is located in southwestern Erie Township, and the unincorporated community of Lacarne lies in the township's southwest. Camp Perry
Camp Perry is a National Guard training facility located on the shore of Lake Erie in northern Ohio near Port Clinton. In addition to its regular mission as a military training base, Camp Perry also boasts the second largest outdoor rifle range in the world after the NRA Whittington Center in Raton, NM. The firing is done in the direction of the open water of the lake, that lies just beyond an earthen berm and the targets. History The original land for Camp Perry was purchased in 1906, and the reservation was named after Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry, the American naval commander who won the Battle of Put-in-Bay during the War of 1812. Port Clinton, Ohio
Port Clinton is a city in and the county seat of Ottawa County, located at the mouth of the Portage River on Lake Erie, about 44 miles east of Toledo. The population was 6,056 at the 2010 census. The city has been nicknamed the "Walleye Capital of the World", due to the productive fishing waters for the species lying offshore in Lake Erie's Western Basin.
