Eresfjord
Eresfjord is a village in Molde Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. Approximately 450 inhabitants reside in the village (2008). The village is located along the river Eira between the Eresfjorden and the lake Eikesdalsvatnet. The mountain Skjorta lies just to the east of the village. The village of Myklebostad lies about to the northwest through the Vistdal valley and the village of Boggestranda lies about to the north. The village was the administrative center of the former municipality of Eresfjord og Vistdal from 1890 until 1964 when it was merged back into Nesset. Sira Church which was opened in 1869, is the main church for the area, and it is located in the middle of Eresfjord. Agriculture, salmon fishing, and tourism are the main form of income in the area. Eresfjord Og Vistdal
Eresfjord og Vistdal is a former municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It existed from 1890 until its dissolution in 1964. The municipality encompassed all of the present-day Molde Municipality that lies south of the Langfjorden and surrounding the Eresfjorden. The administrative centre of the municipality was the village of Eresfjord. The municipality included the two parishes of Vistdal and Eresfjord and there were two churches in the municipality: Sira Church in Eresfjord and Vistdal Church in Myklebostad. History The municipality of ''Eresfjord og Vistdal'' was established on 1 January 1890 when it was split off from Nesset Municipality. Eresfjord og Vistdal had an initial population of 2,155. Sira Church (Nesset)
Sira Church or Eresfjord Church ( no, Sira kyrkje/Eresfjord kyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Molde Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located in the village of Eresfjord. It is the church for the Eresfjord parish which is part of the Molde domprosti (arch- deanery) in the Diocese of Møre. The white, wooden church was built in an octagonal design in a neo-gothic style in 1869 using plans drawn up by the architect Christian H. Grosch. The church seats 307 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1426, but the church was not new that year. The first church in Eresfjord was a wooden stave church that was likely constructed in the 14th century. In 1647–1648, the church at Sira was renovated and expanded from a single-nave stave church into a building with a cruciform floor plan by adding two timber-framed transepts to the north and south. Eresfjorden
Eresfjorden is a fjord in Molde Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is a long branch off of the main Langfjorden, which is itself a branch off the great Romsdal Fjord. The fjord begins at the mouth of the Eira River near the village of Eresfjord, and then it flows north to meet the Langfjorden near the villages of Eidsvåg and Boggestranda. Just before 8:00 p.m. on 22 February 1756, a landslide with a volume of — the largest known landslide in Norway in historic time — traveled at high speed from a height of on the side of the mountain Tjellafjellet into the Langfjorden about west of Tjelle and between Tjelle and Gramsgrø. The slide generated three megatsunamis in the Langfjorden and the Eresfjorden with heights of . The waves flooded the shore for inland in some areas, destroying farms and other inhabited areas, killing 32 people and destroying 168 buildings, 196 boats, large amounts of forest, and roads and boat landings. Eikesdalsvatnet is a lake in Molde Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The lake is long and narrow, roughly in length, and it is the largest lake in Møre og Romsdal county. The village of Eikesdalen is located at the southern end of the lake.
