Enfield South Platform Railway Station
Enfield South Platform is a former railway station on the Flemington-Campsie Goods Line in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It was used by workers at the nearby Enfield Tarpaulin Factory and also signallers at the nearby Enfield South signal box. The factory was used by the railway to make tarpaulins for covering open wagons. It was decommissioned in 1996. A 2009 report to NSW Ports determined the site of the station contains several artefacts constituting "state significance". The Enfield Intermodal Logistics Centre now exists on the site of Enfield South. Only remnants of the station remain. Bankstown Railway Line
The Bankstown railway line is a railway line serving the Canterbury-Bankstown and Inner West regions of Sydney between the stations of Sydenham and Lidcombe. History The line opened on 1 February 1895, branching from the Illawarra line from Sydenham to Belmore. The line was originally constructed as an alternative route for goods traffic on the main southern railway, with planners intending the line to eventually link up with the main line at Liverpool. The 1890s depression put this plan on hold; by the time funds became available again, it had been decided to make the Bankstown line a suburban-only line to service the growing population west of Canterbury. On 14 April 1909, the line was extended to Bankstown, with intermediate stations at Lakemba and Punchbowl. In 1916, the Metropolitan Goods Line was constructed, running parallel to Bankstown line from Marrickville to Campsie. On 16 July 1928, it was extended to Regents Park where it joined the Main South line via a ...

Rail Directions
Railroad directions are used to describe train directions on rail systems. The terms used may be derived from such sources as compass directions, altitude directions, or other directions. However, the railroad directions frequently vary from the actual directions, so that, for example, a "northbound" train may really be headed west over some segments of its trip, or a train going "down" may actually be increasing its elevation. Railroad directions are often specific to system, country, or region. Radial directions Many rail systems use the concept of a center (usually a major city) to define rail directions. Up and down In British practice, railway directions are usually described as "up" and "down", with "up" being towards a major location. This convention is applied not only to the trains and the tracks, but also to items of lineside equipment and to areas near a track. Since British trains run on the left, the "up" side of a line is usually on the left when proceeding in the "u ...
