In the Eurovision Song Contest 1963, Sweden was represented by Monica Zetterlund, a popular jazz singer. Her song, written by Bobbie Ericsson and Beppe Wolgers, was called "En gång i Stockholm". Carli Thornehave also sung the winning song at the national final. The contest, which was held in London, did not go very well for Sweden. They scored for the first (and so far only) time the infamous nul points, among with their neighbours Finland and Norway, and also Netherlands. Before Eurovision Melodifestivalen 1963 Melodifestivalen 1963 (known as Eurovisionsschlagern, svensk final) was the selection for the sixth song to represent Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest. Monica Zetterlund (born Eva Monica Nilsson; 20 September 1937 – 12 May 2005) was a Sweden, Swedish jazz Singing, singer and Actor, actress. Through her lifetime, she starred in over 10 Swedish film productions and recorded over 20 studio albums. She gained international fame through her collaborative album with Bill Evans, ''Waltz for Debby (1964 album), Waltz for Debby.'' Thore Skogman
Elof Lars "Thore" Skogman (9 March 1931 – 9 December 2007) was a popular Swedish singer, songwriter, actor and entertainer. Skogman was born in Hallstahammar, Sweden. While working as an accountant and sales manager during the 1950s, he made his debut recording in 1955, devoted his full-time to singing by 1961, and came third in Sweden's national song contest Melodifestivalen in 1963. In the 1960s he wrote "Fröken Fräken" (literally: ''Miss Freckle'') that became one of his most successful hits. Skogman also wrote songs for other Swedish and Scandinavian artists. Ã…ke Gerhard (Utansjö, Ã…ngermanland, 26 March 1921 – 20 August 2009) was a Swedish songwriter. His songs won the title for the first three years of Sweden's Melodifestival: In 1958 "Lilla stjärna" Little star sung by Alice Babs, in 1959 "Augustin" sung by Siw Malmkvist with lyrics by Harry Sandin (performed by Brita Borg at Eurovision) and in 1960 " Alla andra fÃ¥r varann" Everyone else gets each other with lyrics by Ulf Kjellqvist. Harry Arnold (musician)
Harry Arnold Persson (August 7, 1920 in Helsingborg, Sweden – February 11, 1971 in Stockholm) was a Swedish jazz saxophonist and bandleader. Arnold led his first big band in 1942, playing the saxophone initially but eventually ceasing to perform to concentrate on arranging. From 1949–1952, he played and arranged for Thore Ehrling's band and worked extensively as a studio musician, particularly writing film scores through much of the 1950s. From 1956 to 1965, Arnold led the Swedish Radio Big Band, which included Arne Domnérus, Bengt Hallberg, and Åke Persson. American trumpeter Benny Bailey played with the band for a time, and Quincy Jones arranged and briefly led the group; they recorded with Ernestine Anderson, Lucky Thompson, Coleman Hawkins, Toots Thielemans, Tony Scott, and Stan Getz. Owe Thörnqvist
Owe Thörnqvist (born 12 March 1929 in Uppsala) is a Swedish singer-songwriter and revue artist. Since the 1960s he has lived in Spain and Florida in the winter for health reasons, and in Sweden in the summers. He has also made regular concert tours in Sweden. In 1953, Thörnqvist produced his first revue in Uppsala, and in 1955 his first record was released. His musical style includes rock, ballroom rumba and calypso, and he has also written pastiches of American popular music; his texts are characterised by word play and humour. Thörnqvist was one of the first people to do stand-up comedy in Sweden, in venues such as Hamburger Börs and Berns in Stockholm in the 1950s. Ann-Louise Hanson
Ann-Louise Hanson (born in Kristianstad in 1944) is a Swedish singer who has been involved in the music industry since 1956. In 1960, she had her first hit, "Är du ensam i kväll?", a Swedish version of Elvis Presley's ''Are you lonesome tonight?'' Many of her solo recordings from the 1960s feature Bruno Glenmarks Orkester and, following their marriage, Ann-Louise and Bruno Glenmark formed the group Glenmarks with Bruno's niece Karin and nephew Anders. Soon after, their own GlenDisc record label began producing vinyl, cassettes and eventually CDs under the banner of 'Hanson-Glenmark Production AB'. Ann-Louise holds the dubious honour of having entered the Swedish Melodifestivalen competition thirteen times without winning once, which is a record in itself. Anna-Lena Löfgren (1 May 1944 – 21 May 2010) was a Swedish singer from Stockholm. During the years 1962 and 1995, more than 40 of her songs made it onto Svensktoppen, the record chart of Sveriges Radio. Löfgren became one of the most best known schlager singers in Sweden during the 1960s. She made her first public appearance on the radio show ''Barnens brevlåda'' in the 1950s. A few years later Löfgren was discovered by the Swedish rock singer Rock-Olga at the nightspot Nalen in Stockholm. Her breakthrough came soon after in 1962 with the song "Regniga natt", which was certified gold (sold more than 100,000 copies) and topped that year's Svensktoppen.
