Emprendimientos Ferroviarios S.A. (Emfer) was an Argentine rail rolling stock manufacturer based in San Martín, Buenos Aires. The company also remodelled and repaired rail vehicles and had previously manufactured rolling stock for the Sarmiento and Mitre commuter rail lines in Buenos Aires. The Emfer rail rolling stock ran on the two lines until 2014 when they were replaced with CSR Corporation Limited Electric Multiple Units. The company's main factory in San Martín once belonged to the state-owned Fabricaciones Militares (which manufactured military products in addition to rail rolling stock). During its last years, the company was managed by brothers Mario and Claudio Cirigliano, who had been prosecuted following the Once tragedy in 2012. Sarmiento Line
The Sarmiento line is a broad gauge commuter rail service in Buenos Aires Province, Argentina, run by the state-owned Trenes Argentinos since 11 September 2013. History This line had previously been run by the state-owned company Ferrocarriles Argentinos since nationalisation of the Argentine railways in 1948. FA operated the trains until 1991 when residual company FEMESA temporarily took over all the urban services prior to be privatized. After the Government of Carlos Menem privatized the urban railways services private company Trenes de Buenos Aires (TBA) took over Mitre Line. TBA operated the line until the 2012 Once station rail disaster happened. The 2012 Buenos Aires rail disaster, also known as the Once Tragedy, occurred on 22 February 2012, when a train crashed at Once Station ( es, link=no, Estación Once de Septiembre; ) in the Balvanera neighbourhood of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
