Emory Johnson
Alfred Emory Johnson (March 16, 1894 – April 18, 1960) was an American actor, director, producer, and writer. As a teenager, he started acting in silent films. Early in his career, Carl Laemmle chose Emory to become a Universal studio leading man. He also became part of one of the early Hollywood celebrity marriages when he wed Ella Hall. In 1922, Emory acted and directed his first feature film – '' In the Name of The Law''. He would continue to direct more feature films until the decade's end. By the early 1930s, his Hollywood career had faded, and Johnson became a portrait photographer. In 1960, he died from burns sustained in a fire. Richard Emory
Richard Emory (1919–1994) was an American actor born in Santa Barbara, California. After serving in the military as a ''Marine'' in '' World War II'', he started a career as an Actor. He achieved recognition in movies of the 1950s and 1960s and also found work as a Supporting actor in various television serials. He was the first son of one of the early power couples of the Silent Film era - ''Emory Johnson'' and ''Ella Hall''. After his birth, a brother and two sisters would follow. Marguerite Clayton
Marguerite Clayton (born Margaret Fitzgerald; April 12, 1891 – December 20, 1968) was an American actress of the silent era. She appeared in more than 170 films between 1909 and 1928, many of which were westerns with Broncho Billy Anderson and Harry Carey. Biography Margaret Fitzgerald was born in Ogden, Utah, on April 12, 1891 and attended St. Mary's Academy in Salt Lake City, Utah. He father was a mining engineer. In 1909, Clayton made her first films, ''A Mexican's Gratitude'' and ''The Heart of a Cowboy'', with Anderson. Her film career ended in 1928. Her employers included Essanay. Clayton died in Los Angeles, California, in a road accident. She was buried with her husband Major General Victor Bertrandias in Arlington National Cemetery. Gilbert M. "Broncho Billy" Anderson (born Maxwell Henry Aronson; March 21, 1880 – January 20, 1971) was an American actor, writer, film director, and film producer, who was the first star of the Western film genre. He was a founder and star for Essanay studios. In 1958, he received a special Academy Award for being a pioneer of the film industry. The Essanay Film Manufacturing Company was an early American motion picture studio. The studio was founded in 1907 in Chicago, and later developed an additional film lot in Niles Canyon, California. Its various stars included Francis X. Bushman, Gloria Swanson and studio co-owner, actor and director, Broncho Billy Anderson. It is probably best known today for its series of Charlie Chaplin comedies from 1915-1916. In the late 1916 it merged with other studios and stopped issuing films in the fall of 1918. Niles Canyon
Niles Canyon is a canyon in the San Francisco Bay Area formed by Alameda Creek, known for its heritage railroad and silent movie history. The canyon is largely in an unincorporated area of Alameda County, while the western portion of the canyon lies within the city limits of Fremont and Union City. The stretch of State Route 84 known as Niles Canyon Road traverses the length of the canyon from the Niles district of Fremont to the unincorporated town of Sunol. Two railroads also follow the same route down the canyon from Sunol to Niles: the old Southern Pacific track along the north side, now the Niles Canyon Railway, and the newer Union Pacific (formerly the Western Pacific) track a little to the south.
