Emilio Alzamora
Emilio Alzamora Escardibul (born May 22, 1973 in Lleida, Spain) is a former Grand Prix motorcycle road racer. He was the 1999 F.I.M. 125cc world champion. He is the second rider to win a Grand Prix motorcycle world championship without having won a race. Alzamora got his start racing in the 80cc class, winning the 1989 80cc championship of Catalunya at the age of 16. In 1994, he made his Grand Prix debut in the 125 class as a member of former world champion Paolo Pileri's team. He moved up to the 250 class in 1997, but after a season marred by injuries, he returned to the 125 class. Alzamora won the 1999 125cc world championship without winning a race by virtue of 10 podium positions, defeating Marco Melandri and Masao Azuma who each had five victories. List Of Grand Prix Motorcycle Racing World Champions
Grand Prix motorcycle racing is the premier championship of motorcycle road racing, which has been divided into three classes since the 1990 season: 125cc, 250cc and MotoGP, with the addition of MotoE, an electric motorcycle class, in 2019. Classes that have been discontinued include 350cc and 50cc/80cc. The Grand Prix Road-Racing World Championship was established in 1949 by the sport's governing body, the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), and is the oldest motorsport World Championship. There were four classes when the championship started in 1949; 500cc, 350cc, 250cc and 125cc. The 50cc class was introduced in the 1962 season. Due to escalating costs that resulted in a number of manufacturers leaving the championship, the FIM limited the 50cc bikes to a single cylinder, the 125cc and 250cc bikes were limited to two cylinders and the 350cc and 500cc bikes were limited to four cylinders. The 1994 Japanese motorcycle Grand Prix was the third round of the 1994 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season. It took place on 24 April 1994 at the Suzuka Circuit. 500cc race report This race was most notable for the four-way battle for the win, home hero Norick Abe bravely fighting and leading the race until he crashed out of contention and Kevin Schwantz' recovery drive to victory. Masao Azuma
Masao Azuma (born March 24, 1971 in Kōchi, Japan) is a Japanese former Grand Prix motorcycle road racer who competed in the 125cc class from 1996 to 2003. During his eight years in the 125 class he rode exclusively for Honda and used Bridgestone tyres for six of those years. He finished in the Top 5 of the Championship for four consecutive years. Early career Azuma began racing minibikes at an early age in the Japanese national championships. He was the Japanese National 125cc Champion in 1993 and 1994. He made his 125cc World Championship debut as a wildcard at Suzuka in 1996 and finished an impressive 6th. 1997 Azuma competed in the full 1997 season for the LB Racing Team and showed good consistency regularly finishing just outside the top 10. He scored a best finish of 4th, again at his home round at Suzuka.
