The Royal Danish Embassy in Beijing is Denmark's foremost diplomatic mission in the People's Republic of China. The embassy is located on 1 Dong Wu Jie, San li Tun, in the Chaoyang district of Beijing. Denmark recognized the People's Republic of China on January 9, 1950 and diplomatic relations between Denmark and People's Republic of China was established on May 11, 1950. Denmark was the first Western country to recognize the People's Republic of China. The current embassy compound was finished in June 1974 and is designed by the famous Danish architect, Gehrdt Bornebusch It contains the ambassador's residence as well as offices for the more than 60 employees situated in the embassy. Chaoyang District, Beijing
Chaoyang District () is a core district of Beijing. It borders the districts of Shunyi to the northeast, Tongzhou to the east and southeast, Daxing to the south, Fengtai to the southwest, Dongcheng, Xicheng and Haidian to the west, and Changping to the northwest. Chaoyang is home to the majority of Beijing's many foreign embassies, the well-known Sanlitun bar street, as well as Beijing's growing central business district. Henrik Kauffmann
Henrik Kauffmann (26 August 1888 – 5 June 1963) was the Danish ambassador to the United States during World War II, who signed over part of Greenland to the US. Career Kauffmann started his foreign career by serving as envoy in Rome, 1921–1923. He afterwards served in Peking in 1924–1932 when he was succeeded by Oscar O'Neill Oxholm. During this period Kauffmann became notable for three things: political reports of high quality; an ability to gain close contacts with central Chinese decision makers; and his lavish spending. After his time in Peking, Kauffmann served as envoy in Oslo 1932–1939 (when he was, again, succeeded by Oxholm), where he helped soften the Danish-Norwegian relations following the Greenland case.
